I did use the search function but no transmission leak of this sort has been reported before

My 07 Escalade started leaking transmission fluid from the bell housing today, and it’s not a small leak, after about 5 mins it was about 3 inches in diameter and this is with the vehicle off.

it’s my daily, I don’t race it or beat on it and never heard any noise while driving today to indicate something broke or let go.

trucks a 2wd and only has 68k on the clock.

Any ideas on what to check or what it could be?

TIA

Either the front pump seal or the torque converter seal is my guess but I am not a transmission specialist by any means. Maybe @rockola1971 can chime in with info.

Mine wasn't leaking ATF, but I was doing an engine rear main seal job, so while I had the 6L80e tranny, torque converter, and transfer case out, I changed the tranny front seal GM# 24237531 and input shaft seal GM# 24219390.

Yeah I would say front pump seal based on the amount its leaking in a short period of time.

Perfect time to do the rea main seal since the trans will be out

Thanks for the info. I was able to find the first part number but can you double check the second one, nothing showing up when I do a search for that.

since I need to pull the tranny would you recommend doing the rear main seal anyway?

I typed it wrong, correct # is GM# 24219390. I corrected it in my previous post too.

If it's leaking YES. If it's not NO.
The parts aren't expensive.
Rear main seal & cover – Dorman 635-518 - $43
It had 132k miles. It's been 2 yrs and 32k miles since I did the rear main job and she's still dry as a bone. I also did a pan gasket, engine oil pickup tube oring, new starter, new torque converter, new trans cooler lines, tranny fluid and filter, new improved valve cover, a catch cam, and combustion chamber solvent soak TSB# 10-06-01-008M

Here another post I did when doing all that work

Do not put a Dorman rear main seal in. Use an ACDelco, get the rear cover with the rear cover gasket, with the rear main already installed in it- it’s way easier. That’s not the place to cheap out and use a Dorman part unless you enjoy pulling your transmission.
