I wonder HOW it is done. The whole front clip have to come off the van?

Pretty much. When they pull 'em at wrecking yards, they slice the fenders from the core support and peel 'em out and back. It looks like the engine exploded forward, out of the bay.

There is enough clearance to get a lifting device in there to yank it out?

Barely, but yeah. Removing the intake manifold makes it so much easier. You remove the doghouse from the inside and that gives you access to the top rear of the motor to disconnect the fuel lines, oil pressure and MAP sensors (also CMP sensor if Gen3), IM bolts, coil brackets bolts, valve cover bolts, etc.
