This is exactly what GM needs to do and go the opposite direction the other truck manufacturers are doing.
5.7 V8 and a 6.7 V8 with 490 HP.

Bigger more powerful V8 motors are options truck buyers want and hopefully these will be available soon!

New gen of V8s is great but would really love to see these big V8s with a hybrid system integrated for better MPGs. 25mpg should be possible in today’s world…

I really want to see more plug-in hybrids. Most ppl don’t have commutes >30miles. Doing the whole thing on battery or even half of it would be ideal.

I know that hybrids are all the rage now, I don't want one if I am going to have one long term. You now have twice the complexity of 2 powertrains.
If built right they are not. Look at Toyota: 10yr old Prius with 300k miles are still kicking and have crazy values.

Watch RichRebuild on YouTube, he just worked over a 300k mile Prius from a junkyard for <$2k.

I 100% agree. The idea sounds nice, but I don't want to think of the headaches on a 10 year old vehicle, in the midwest, with 200k on it.

Right now I can do all my own repairs and not worry about a zillion other electric issues, or high voltage being present.

I don’t necessarily disagree but people have been saying this now for 10+ years. We have 10yr+ old Teslas running around just fine (not worth anything but that’s not the point lol). Toyota and Honda have hundreds of thousands of hybrids with 200k+ miles that are still desirable vehicles and even Ford has Escape hybrids running around in NYC as taxis.
I think GM scarred everyone with their initial run of Tahoe/Escalade hybrids and tainted the waters with their EV1 before it. They dove into EVs but skipped over hybrids altogether. Make the Hummer EV 1/3 the size, strap it to a Suburban with the 5.3 and make it a plug-in hybrid. Thing would get 50mile of EV range and probably be as fast as a Escalade V.

Hybrids have value in certain living environments, but not for all living environments. If you own or rent a home with your own land/garage, it could make sense. But, if you live in an apartment or condo with no reserved parking/garage to have daily access to a charging unit, then the hybrid becomes a less attractive investment. Gotta be able to charge it, unless you are totally dependent upon the self charge capabilities of the truck (I'm assuming that it exists, but I also admit that I'm ignorant on the details of the hybrid system).

It's still an advantage even if you don't plug it in regularly, because it captures energy lost to braking and turns it into acceleration. And who doesn't love acceleration?

I’ve been looking for a used hybrid gmt900. I know someone who at close to 200k with maintenance other than the battery. He gets close to 20 mpg city driving in a 14 Escalade. I’m ready for a non plug in hybrid vehicle.

Manhattan is one such living environment, especially for certain well-to-dos with their own garage space.
Back when most hybrids were NOT plug-in hybrids, however, it was incredibly rare to spot a hoidytoidy driving / being driven in a hybrid vehicle
(possibly because Priuses look like a cure for priapism and wetness? :p ) Far more likely was to spot a hybrid vehicle for-hire - and that's even moreso the case today.
As more and more normal-looking vehicles offered hybrid options, and as more and more hybrid vehicles became plug-in hybrids,
more and more Manhattan vehicles are hybrids, and nearly all of those are plug-in hybrids, including the for-hire vehicles.

I'm just a traditionalist. I grew up with American V-8s and am not interested in anything else.

Bigger the better but they have these small blocks making tremendous HP.

I'm very fond of and partial to American V8s too, but what have you against Buick's 3.8L? What about Buick's Turbo 231?
I have no hate for them [lol, especially the one that's a cut down SBC]. I like American V-8s, mostly Chevy. I like analog better than digital. I like books better than screens. I like cassettes better than CDs.

Ten year old Prius' need new battery packs and are basically worthless until they get new ones. At least that is what happened to 3 people I know who used to have them. This was 5-6 years ago.
We have a Lexus hybrid and with nearly 200k on it the battery is still fine (2012). I think my scanner says battery life is still 40%.

I also will admit the YouTube ppl make things overly simple but even the Tahoe/Escky hybrid uses Toyota style cells and are rebuildable. I would replace the battery pack in the Lexus with a re-conditioned one for a $3-4K. No different that the 6L80/90, 8L80/90 transmissions in the GM trucks. Similar price to fix/replace and the trucks take a similar hit on value when they fail. The battery packs actually look easier… idk. I think there are enough vehicle to show the technology is solid for 10-15yrs.
Again, NYC cabs are Prius, Escape Hybrids, and Siennas. They replaced the Crown Vic for a reason.
