ok. Going back to basics. What autos do you have access to? My Escalade is the only thing I own that requires the CANdi. The other 2 GM products I own are 2005 MY and don't. If you can, try using the unit on a pre 2007 auto without the CANdi hooked up and see if you can get in and view data. I am just trying to identify which piece doesn't work.

I wish we were closer, I'd try mine to see if it works on your autos and if my CANdi works with your T2, etc... I am in Maryland :-/

I will look at the stampings. However, as this thing is a clone, I never bothered to look that closely as it is all made up anyway.

Check for loose pins on the back of the adld connector study called the obd2 port

Yes, I checked the ALDL on the truck and all the pins and wires are fine. There are six in use on this truck. Right before I purchased it, the dealer re-flashed the BCM and fixed the cruise control and I was there.

Ok, earlier today hooked the Tech2 with CANdi back up to our 2009 GMC Yukon XL and the splash screen (for lack of a better word) does not show the CANdi attached. The CANdi however, powers on, clicks and the green light flashes. If I set the Tech2 in bypass mode (enabled) I can get in to viewing data but the values such as actual RPMs are blank with a *. It will not recognize the CANdi at all, it is as if it is not even hooked up.

Walking over to my 2004 Pontiac Montana, again the CANdi is still attached and does not show up on the splash screen. Setting the TECH2 to bypass mode allows me to see all engine functions in real time and I even reset two trouble codes (one of the reasons I bought this!).

At this point I wonder if it is the adapter to the ALDL? The TECH2 will recognize the CANdi with the loop back connectors installed on the kitchen table and pass all tests.

The 16-Pin adapter has 19 holes on the other side that attaches to either the TECH2 or CANdi. Two of those holes, 3 and 15 are not active, no connector in them. Not sure what to do at this point. Any ideas?

Well for starters I would test for continuity between the aldl connecter and thier corresponding pins on the bcm TCM and ECU. Is relatively easy to do if you have a dvom. You would just have to have a long wire with a needle or alligator clip. If thier are no broken wires, I'd check your voltage which must be at 13.5 at a minimum.


You can also try pulling the radio fuse which is also known to cause communication issues with the obd2 port. If you can, try those things listed and report back

Will get the Voltmeter out tomorrow and have a go at it. AND check the voltage.

Today at a traffic light, there suddenly was a smell of burning plastic. I figured it was a passing car and it probably was. But just as I cleared the intersection the voltmeter read well over 14 volts and that is the first time I've seen it get that high. I pulled over, popped the hood and nothing was amiss. The voltmeter usually reads between 12 and 14 because of that system for better economy which is not unplugged on my truck, not yet anyway. Delco battery is about 2 years old.

Anyhow, I'll check them out tomorrow after cleaning the garage.

Not yet. Waiting for my daughter to drop by so I can test the Tech2 on her 2011 GM car. Amazon should be delivering an OBDII adapter today which I will test out as well. Then I'm out of time for a week or so with other commitments.

Finally got somewhere! The original OBDII adapter must be bad. New one from Amazon allowed me to see everything and test and make changes to truck. I learned that when I got the message that there was no communication etc. etc. it was because those modules are not installed, such as electronic suspension, power running boards. Saw an option for an auxiliary BCM which mine does not have too.

While there are no DTCs for the BOSE Amplifier, there is no communication with it. I cannot test the speakers through the amp but can through the radio setting though only 4 and not 9. So it seems my amp is dead or disconnected.

The motor and transmission are perfect, no misfires, nothing amiss. Thank the Lord! Couple codes like one for cell phone antenna but I reset them and they have not come back, the in car phone works.

Appreciate your help and if you have anything to add or discuss, such is always appreciated!

Well, when you get a chance, can you see if you have an auxillary body control module installed and functioning? Same for the amp? Thanks!

I'm beginning to wonder if my BCM was not reprogrammed properly.

As for the BCM programming. You can now do it yourself, if you find that is the issue.

My truck has the U3U Navigation Radio and the UQA Speaker System.

It is. Your RPOs reveal that your amp is the fancier one, able to be read and tested by your Tech2. Did I remember right, that you have an Escalade?

That is the latest Tech2 software, 33.004 for GM. This was the last release and works for up to 2013. Not sure if the 2014 GMT900s would work with this. After this GM went to the MDI with the laptop. I purchased the kit that came with the hard case, glad I did to keep things organized and protected!

It wasn't a bad cable, just the OBD II adapter. I bought one from Amazon and they sent a replacement. No issues at all, very happy with it, already paid for itself several times over!
