My 2001 Yukno XL 4X4 was stolen going on 2 weeks ago and was invoild in a hit and run.

I waiting for the Insurance company to total it.

The Yukon is fixable but it is cost over the 85% what he SUV is worth this why they going to total it.

My 2001 has the 5.3 in it driving around it has ok power but my opinon it underpowered.

I planning to replace it with anouther one but which motor to get this timne around.

I am leaning toward the 3/4 with a 8.1 how much worse is going to be the MPG or will a 6.0 be fine I planing to do some tow a RV after I retire I hope so I looking down to road which motor will be the best for me.

id look for a 3/4 ton thats already been converted to a duramax ive seen a bunch out there for sale becuase the mpg on the 8.1 is horrible especially since your gonna retire and do the RV thing my grandperents did that and started off with gas engines eventually they bought a diesel truck and they were much happier

Diesel cleaner that gas vehicles? I don't know about that....
I worked with a guy with a 3/4 ton w/8.1 and I asked him what he got for MPG. Around the city and highway, 8 miles per gallon. Then I asked him what about when he was hooked up with horses and crap. he replied, "8."

Dude, drop a 6.0 in it and get a cheap used blower from Performancetrucks.net.

Or if that's to rich for your blood.

6.0, cut 799 heads, decent cam, 2800 or a 3k converter, 2010 truck intake, its the same as a TBSS intake but with a returnless fuel rail.
Set of speed engineering headers. Any catback you want and call it a day.

But here's the kicker. By the time you buy and "pay" to have the second list of parts installed, you could have bought the Blower and made more power.

Diesels are shit. they cost a bloody fortune to repair.

just chiming in on what I would consider a curious topic. I like the idea of a diesel conversion. But here is where I separate from the pack. I know most anyone who would convert to diesel in a gm would lean towards a duramax, simply for the plug and play of many of the components. I would be most interested in a cummins swap. which I have NO idea how it would work. But I have owned several cummins trucks, and in reality the only issue with them was the junk dodge truck wrapped around it. I routinely saw 300k miles, with very few mechanical issues, no loss of power and 20+ mpg.

i do agree being a diesel mechanic myself they do cost more to maintain
but since they are built much stronger then a gas engine they last much much longer becuase they are compression combustion
okay for fact
you can get 3 times more miles out of any light truck diesel on the market today when proper maintenece has been done
ive seen power strokes durmaxes cummins detroits cats with 250 go 500k miles and still run like champs
my grandfather had a 97 one tone dually ford powerstroke with 408k miles on it when he sold it
and it never had to have any major repairs done

if you have a 2500 suburban or yukon xl then a durmax is realistic but a duramax on a 1500 suburban is still possible but very very costly becuase of the amount of modifications needed to be done becuase an allison and a duramax is pretty heavy and alot bigger
a cummins is really the only realistic cost effective diesel swap on a half ton that is atleast untill GM rolls out there 4.5 liter duramax

I took the Yukon apart today hook my chain and come along to the bent radiator lower support and pulled it straight I also had put in to 4 wheel low hooked to a pole to pull out it not bad it was tweaked not no more.

Beat the bumper out some it still need to be replaced but looks better.
I am taking the bumper mounting brackets to work and bend them back also.

As for the fender did my best but it done it has a bow in it I can get out of it the gap between the fender and hood on the Right hand side is about 3/4 inch I tried to loosen all the bolts up and push it over it no go and the hood hinges are not slotted so I can't split the different of the gap to make both side look even..

I no big hurry this will take awhile to put back together right it now a toy project car not my DD any more but I still like my Yukon.

And yes I hugged my Yukon today.

I going put the Yukon back as it was before it was stolen and wreaked.

I like to have bigger tires then again it now a once it a while car and it has new tires on it now so I doubt I fork out the money to new rims and bigger tires on it.

I owned many cars and trucks over the years I can say I really like the Yukon I am glad I got it back.

I had to put a new battery in the Yukon today I been waiting to do this the old ignition they tore up when they rip it off and it had a short in it that gave it a constant current draw.

The new replacement ignition showed up and I installed it.
Now it is all rekeyed.

Next on the need to do list is a windshield and the rest can fixed down the road little here a little there.

I was surprised it been a while last time I had to buy a battery the went up in price.

I also installed a solar 5 watt battery charger I figured it going to be doing a lot of sitting this keep the battery charged at least.
