Hey all, just joined the forum and have a few q's. First of all I'm a student with a VERY limited budget so any cost will have to be around $300 or $350. I realize its hardly enough for a big upgrade but hopefully someone can work their magic and help me out. Anyway, I would like to replace all my factory speakers (6.5's and 4x10's). I'm running a stock system with a older pioneer deck. I'd like the speakers to handle loud levels of music as in the summer I ride with the windows down and music loud :)...also I've read a few post about upgrade the 4x10's to 6x9's. What kind of mods will I need to do (cutting, spacers, added amp etc.) and what speakers will fit the best using the factory grill covers. Thanks for the suggestions...

welcome Phillip, I suggest going to your local Car Toys, Best Buy, etc and see what they have as far as drop in replacements. With what you have power wise, and budget, you will easily find what your looking for.
$119, for Kicker KS65
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Kicker+...18320075736&skuId=2304238&st=kicker&cp=1&lp=7

and $129 for 4x10
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Kicker+...8320079427&skuId=2304195&st=kicker&cp=1&lp=11

The KS will work fine off the headunit, and you can add good power later, and they will do fine...have the KS65 in my rear doors as is..

Thanks you guys for the suggestions, I'll just have to settle with my low budget and mediocre speakers till I'm able to afford a decent system with maybe an amp somewhere in the future.

I run the Polk DB6501 component set upfront $113 to the door new and Polk DB651s in the rear doors $61 to the door new. I got both off eBay and these things get crazy loud. I am running a Alpine CDA-105 with the KTP-445 power pack amp so the speakers are seeing like 45w nice sound and loud for little money! There are a few other people up here running the same speaker setup. Your headunit should be just fine for the speakers I just wanted more with add of subs in the near future.

For $350 you can put some very good speakers in place of originals and be prepared for an amp later on with some rewiring. Look under your drivers seat and if you seen an electronics box above or below the carpet. That would be a stock power amplifier.

best thing in the world i think for these trucks is to basically just screw the 4x10s waste of money even the 6x9s imo is a waste cause round speakers are always better, better accuracy and quality but if you were to just delete those i would recommend a woofer for the lows

mb quarts, infinity refernce series, alpine type s all are relatively cheap good and reliable replacements imo

i have a set of mb quarts components in my front doors that i think were fsa-216 (model number, possibly the right one) but they were only 50 bucks that i paid off of sonic electronix and they are ******* amazing budget speakers

but they dont fit the depth right but for 350 bucks you could easily stock your truck full of great sound

All my kicker speakers are blown :(

S/C and drop are a priority...

What are the dimensions front and rear...I know I can add 6x9's to the rear.
What is the benefit to a crossover? Is it necessary?

Yes I do have subs, they are on loan to black95 until I get all my pieces to replace all the shit that was stolen!

Subs are 4ohn 12in kicker l7's in a ported box
I have a 1,500 watt mono black hifonics amp
also have a 4channel hifonics amp for the interior speakers

Crossover send bass to the subs only?

Think it would be stupid to mix match subs and speakers...

Polks have great reviews...also just found set a used jl audio speakers and crossovers for $200 on CL but awaiting on size.

The proper crossover or frequency filter on the signal lines will help with the sound quality and not dump sound where it is not needed. Check to see if the amps have filters built in or perhaps the head unit has separate preouts for front, rear and subs. If so the head unit should have a crossover built-in. As long as the speakers like front and rear have similar specs like frequency response, sensitivity and power handing mixing should not be that bad. The polk components I have are rated for 120W rms and cost about $120 a pair if you look around. My 10" SVC subs were about $110 each and handles 350W rms when wired by themselves.

Hey all I just wanna say eBay is your friend. I get most of my stuff from there and have a fairly high satisfaction/success rate. I try to make sure to buy from stores with feedback scores in the high 90s and plenty of items sold. I also try to "buy it now" instead of waiting for auctions. As long as u take your time while searching you can get great products at cost. Esp for $300-350. If I had that to spare I'd have 2 sets of components instead of my coaxials.

I am sure speaker are fine I have not used them before.

head unit will not have crossover for sub with nor sub preouts. Maybe the sub amp has built in filter. Website does not have viewable manual to find out. maybe call them. or post pic of sub amp controls.

if the hifonics amps are class d digital then you wont have to worry about getting the entire spectrum of frequencies if i remember correctly because generally the class d's if they are digital only let pass the signal that can be used by the woofers (which is why the effeciency is so much better than that of a class a/b) but thats at the cost of losing some sound quality, but generally you wouldnt notice that, especially with l7s, lol

and i didnt look at the specs of the headunit, but if theres only a front and rear output for the rca's, there might be a setting in the head unit to change the rear out to a sub out, but im not certain on that

class D doesnt mean digital, and there are full range class D amplifiers, not just mono.

i didnt say that all class d's are digital, i just merely stated that the bulk of class d's used for subwoofer applications are generally digital just because you dont need a full range signal sent to a subwoofer

and mono means single channel, not like stereo and mono things

full range vs just the cutoff frequencies that are used in woofers is different than mono, 2 channel, 4 channel, etc.

I understand,. but still, a majority of Class d's are not digital. I just dont want people to assume Class d meant 'digital'.
