Picked up this beautiful girl last night for $900 cash money.

285k on the odometer, owner claims 55k on a rebuilt Jasper 6.0L, but has no paperwork.

Battery was dead, needed to be jumped.

Couldn't switch gears without slamming the gas pedal, and couldn't let it drop below 2K RPMS on the way home or the truck would shut off completely.:p

Was definitely an interesting drive!

As of purchasing it, I've found these issues:

1) Needs new battery
2) Bogs down / shuts off under 2k RPMS
3) Transmission line leaking A LOT
4) 2nd row door won't open at all
5) some line is cut off under the truck, haven't investigated to see what it belongs to
6) needs oil change
7) needs new breaks + maybe rotors
8) bald tires
9) no actual light bulbs in the head light housings
10) no passenger side mirror
11) glove box latch doesn't work
12) hood won't fully close

has a lot of rust that I may or may not try to fix

my goal is to make it drivable, then turn it into a 155+ dB audio vehicle.

we threw a temp junk battery in (no pics) just to move forward

then we looked at the transmission line leak

After some carburetor cleaner and wiping with a rag, the vehicle seems to be idling much better

it was about 10pm at night and I didn't trust driving it on the road in case it broke down, but we'll probably seafoam treatment it tomorrow, and hopefully then it'll be able to drive normally

Assume the tranny wouldn't shift gears because there wasn't any TF in it. i would suspect some level of internal damage that may ultimately result in catastrophic failure.

Since it needs TF to maintain operating temp, the tranny was certainly running hot & possibly cooked it medium-well depending on all of the factors. I would have a backup plan for the trans.

Check engine light? Regardless, plug in the OBD scanner and see if it pulls any trouble codes. Get a handle on underlying problems.

What's up with the audio/bass-mobile thing?

I bet he would've took $500. At least it's dbc.

OBD scanner doesn't appear to work on it, guessing since it's a Jasper engine that was put in by the seller, and the ECM probably isn't setup correctly.

I hopefully won't own it long enough to see the tranny fail.

My goal is to build a semi-large system in it, take it to a few shows, and then sell the vehicle for around $5,000 when it's said and done.

nah, he wouldn't take less than $900.

his facebook post had 128 comments within an hour posting, with people wanting it with cash in hand

only reason I got it is because my sister dated one of his friends in HS, so I got to skip straight to the front of the line

An interesting build. Best of luck.

Thanks :D

After a lot of kicking, prying, and other things, we got the back door open and found this bottom latch rusted and completely useless

Not as much smoke as expected, but the car at least didn't turn off for the entire duration lol.

Now I can atleast have access to the interior, and start ripping out the headliner, panels, seats, etc.

Looking for an 8' topper for under $150 as well so I can keep my batteries and amps in the back.

Then I'll have roughly 40 cubes gross inside the cab to fit my subwoofers.

Also gave her the old seafoam treatment.

Looks like you might have an exhaust leak under the hood.

Been pretty rainy and humid, plus 95+ degrees everyday, but managed to put some tow mirrors on today

took the ones from my 2002 Tahoe, that wouldn't work with my 2004 suburban, and they fit like a charm

Tomorrow I'll probably put my white HD Hood on it.

Hopefully soon I'll find a cheap 8' topper for it, and then I'll be plasti-dipping the entire thing black.

Almost had a few catastrophic failures today.

Finally got registration, a plate, and insurance on the 2500.

Was gonna drive 90 miles round trip to pick up a truck topper.

Decided to change the oil before going.

I start it up, all good.

Go to put in drive, it hits neutral, the truck shuts off, and won't start, plus the shifter feels super loose.

So I'm thinking the tranny finally failed.

Turns out the transmission linkage just rusted through or fell off.

so I've got some parts coming in and it looks like it'll be a bit before I get to buy my topper :(

Was able to manually put the vehicle in drive, and take it up to change oil.

then while I had it pulled into the garage, I noticed a leak near the back

ended up blowing a brake line in the 42 seconds it took to drive from the back driveway, to the upstairs garage

got quite a lot done in a few hours this morning

so the transmission linkage doesn't appear to be a common failure mode, and we were unsuccessful in locating a replacement OEM part

options were to fashion something up ourselves, or go to the junkyard

using some parts around the garage we made one

but it's good as new now!

I'd have him pay ME $500 to take it. lol:)

nah man, this thing is awesome

so nice to have a little beater

it just made a nice 20 mile round trip to pick up a topper for $50

it was made for the previous generation ('88 - '98 IIRC) but with 4 little 1/4" bolts we got 'er done

probably have to silicone the windows shut and stuff, none of the window props (actuators? word is escaping me right now) work

just more projects to add :)

it should be time for plasti-dipping the entire truck soon!
