I think I have this issue. If you put the truck in tow mode it goes away...Must be afm related?

When you are pulling up to a light, shift the gear selector into neutral as you slow to a stop. That'll tell you if the issue is in the transmission.

It stops...but it also stops when in tow mode and also does not do it if i slow down gently and hit idle speeds and it is in v8 mode. I just ordered a Range V8 to disable AFM. I wanted one anyway and I found the info in this thread made me pull the trigger

I did have the transmission folks replace the filter and fluid...They reported the transmission fluid was fine, just old and found nothing in the pan to report. When they checked the converter they said it looked fine. It's not that noticeable unless you are braking from a top speed of 50-60mph. Thanks for the info

Since the guys in the thread reported AFM del stops the shudder, I went ahead and ordered a Range V8 AFM Disable. I have a slight oil consumption issue and hope it slows if not cures that issue as well. Plus, driving in tow mode appears to be better performing. I will report what happens after the V8 gets here.

I don't think disabling DOD/AFM eliminates the shudder, it does however stop your oil consumption.
Driving in Tow mode takes it out of OD, is this correct?
I do not have Tow mode in my PPV. If I drop mine down to third, it drives like it would in Tow mode.

My understanding is tow mode can still lock up. If I put it in tow mode, my hoe will be about 1900RPM on the highway at 70ish...same as if in D.

I will report what happens, but i really think this is an AFM issue. At least I hope it is.

:)

Well, the Range stops the shuddering. I just had it delivered to the house, plugged it in and went for a 15 minute drive with about 10 full stops, speeds up to 70MPH. Not a single shudder. The blue light is annoying and the installation card says to pull the unit if it sits due to electrical draw...but it does keep it in V8 permanently. No codes.

Anectdotals:
- Appears to idle smoother
- Shifts a lot smoother
- Instant throttle

I will report later on mileage gains/losses. Also report on oil consumption. I am typically a pessimist...I don't always buy hype, but when you read reviews that this little box makes the truck a much better drive, in my case, it proved true. It feels like I am driving a 2006 Tahoe.

we notice the 4-8 shutter in our 08 and also the mysterious erratic idle / shake..If you can report back in a few days on the Range unit, please..
Thanks,

That's great.
The only negative I have read about the range is the battery draw. Other than that, everyone loves it.

Lookin forward to your updates

The odd thing with mine is, I get that shudder. Only when it locks up. What's bizarre is it has a tune and the DOD/AFM have been disabled.

Day 2 - lots of driving in town, where it would shudder the most, ZERO shudder

I am convinced either something is wrong with my AFM or I need a tune up to keep AFM happy...Either way, the Range Tech V8 is a godsend. Driving is so much better now.

Add to this, MPG seems to be up, but I don't know if that is relevant to the V8.

This is what I always seem to read after someone installs the Range unit. I'm ordering one tonight! I've waited long enough and I'm tired of doing that. Lol. The only "problem" I hope to resolve after installation is oil consumption. I don't have any of the other symptoms you guys are describing like shuddering, etc.
