I'm guessing that is the estimate. Last line says "Quote expires on...."Sad….This is why I am trying to teach my kids to know how to work on cars.
I’m assuming they gave you some sort of an estimate before doing the work.
Ahh! Missed that.I'm guessing that is the estimate. Last line says "Quote expires on...."
Correct. And I took it to them to investigate coolant and ps leaks and so they found that. I had expected to pay 120 for the diagnosis, but the service advisor waived it I think because I had brought it in last week and then had to pick it up with nothing done because they were closing due to the storm. Which I appreciated. They did their part and didn't have to so that.I'm guessing that is the estimate. Last line says "Quote expires on...."

GMPartsDirect is a GM Dealership, Flow Buick GMC.$125-130 around here
And they do make money on parts also. I'm sure gmpartsdirect doesn't get parts at msrp, no decent retailer does.
Yep. And I actually have a lot of these parts already on hand to move forward. So I'll take it to the mechanic and say "go." It'll be like a grand or whatever, but it wont be 4 grand. I dont mind paying for good work....but a grand to bolt on a 150 dollar part (at rock auto the ACDELCO 251713 water pump which claims "GM Original Equipment" is 185) is too much. I'll actually do the water pump on Saturday when I replace the body mount bushings. When I have to, I don't mind paying a blue collar professional, ASE certified mechanic to work on my truck.
a water pump at the local dealer here is around $250 (retail) they are $184 on rockauto, whoever is charging $411 is WAY overpriced.I hate to break it to everyone but a business has to make money to remain in business and pay their overhead (rent, utilities, training, etc.), employees, taxes, etc. So they're not going to be selling you parts and labor at cost. According to GM Parts Direct: MSRP on the water pump is $411.67, AC belt is $68.76, main belt is $62.82, not sure on the coolant but probably at least $20. The labor is probably 2.5 hours at $175 an hour which is $437.50. Add tax to the parts and there's your $1000. Everyone at the dealership has to feed their family and the employees to NOT get paid $175 an hour. Either do it yourself with Rock Auto parts or pay the man. No one is getting ripped off, those prices actually seem reasonable based on MSRP parts pricing and not inflated Matrix pricing. Do you work to break even at your job? No. You work to make money. Did you know Wal-Mart marks up their products, too? GASP!
Sure. Which is why most of us here do our own work on our trucks. $900 saved is $900 earned. But, I'll also gladly pay a shop to do work I either can't or don't have time for. There's an indy shop near me that does good work for a fair price, so I go there when I need something done.I hate to break it to everyone but a business has to make money to remain in business and pay their overhead (rent, utilities, training, etc.), employees, taxes, etc. So they're not going to be selling you parts and labor at cost.
