Shock Questions

I have a 07 Tahoe LT with a 2/3 drop on it. What would be a good shock to put on the rear that could handle some weight??

Shocks technically do not handle weight. The springs do that, unless you have airride....then the provide supplemental load capacity.

Still the majority of the weight is on the springs, as it should be.

You want to run, or are you running extenders?

I have the extenders that came with the lowering kit. The main problem is I have a huge speaker box in the rear and it makes the back sit bump stops so Im thinking that maybe its time for some helper bags

You dont have shock extenders? Whats that red thing inside your springs??

Thats the helper bag and not all bags are made for the springs. You need to measure
1) inside diameter
2) height of inside spring at ride height

Then you order the bag according to that.

I installed the springs and then measured. Tony got me a part number and done......

Almost the only way to do it..... but it is a pain because you have to basically do the spring pull twice.

I do not use shock extenders....... never have.

Why you never used shock extenders? I never seen a helper bag like that before. I need to look into that so I could get some. Do you have to have a air tank and compressor for those?

No you dont need a air tank they come with a line and you can manually fill them

I am only dropped a 1.25 on paper and about a 1 1/2 in real life..... so really no need for extenders..... that is what Tony told me.

Hey guys, will the airlift 1000 change the ride hieght of the truck? I like the way my truck sits now and I don't want to change the hieght... I just hate it when it bottoms out when there's kids in the 3rd row... I want to put the airlift 1000 in hoping it could help the bottoming out situation without sacrificing ride hieght... I didn't want to do the free travel mod...

Yes and no......

When I out close to max psi..... like 30 in them ...... the ride gets stiff when unloaded. Rides fine loaded.

I run 5-10 in them all the time and at that the truck rides close to stock.

5 psi is almost completely unnoticeable.

The height is about a .25 inch difference for me..... @ 30 psi.

So if I just fill with about 5psi the ride height won't change and I have less chance of bottoming out?... will the truck stiffin up or would the truck ride stay the same?

you can try 5 see how you like it. id do 10 just to test it.

5 psi really does not do a lot in my setup at all.

For the best ride and help with bottoming you need at least 15 psi.

Height is practically unaffected......

In all honesty though ..... get the bags. Play around with the psi.....and get familiar with it..... then you will find out what works for your setup. Each one is a wee bit different.

Bags are a great investment...... really ALL lowering springs suck for load..... no matter what anyone says.
