Shifter cable disconnecting from trans bracket

Anyone have a permanent fix for this shifter linkage to the transmission gear selector constantly falling off.
Fix attempts to date are; change out the nylon bushing, replace the gear selector with a genuine gm gear selector and new nylon bushing at the same time.
Still have to crawl under this thing every time I drive it to secure the nylon on the pin and still cannot use the gear selector to often or I may be under it while it is hot trying to secure it while I'm out. Getting up and down is a major inconvenience being handicap.

Does the linkage end look worn? Or is there some sort tension on the cable trying to pop it off?

Or...you can drill it and put a washer and cotterkey on it. Like Doyoubelieve sez....I just did mine. Need a little bitty drill bit but it ain't too bad of a job !

drill the nipple, install a washer, insert a cotter pin behind washer. then it cannot come off unless you remove the cotter pin and remove washer.

Dorman has a kit for this for both the 6L80 and 4L60/65/70.

The cable end does seem a little twisted sometimes but I can reach it with my fingertips to snap it back in but this usually is only good for the day.

I had the same issue with my 2006. The little grommet style piece inside the ring that latches onto the selector on the transmission itself broke and wouldn’t stay on. On a road trip home to Southern California from Utah last month at every stop it would fall off and I had to crawl under it and pop the stupid piece back on to get it to shift…. Took a nice quarter sized burn to my forearm from the 5 million degree down pipe right beside the transmission. BUT…. I replaced the whole shift cable assembly with whatever aftermarket brand that autozone could get me. Replacing the whole cable for just the stupid little nylon grommet at the end sucked but it’s been a month since replacing it, I daily drive mine for work and the replacement part has not given me any issues whatsoever. It’s still attached exactly as it should be.

This never happened on my 2013 Escalade ESV until the last 12-18 months. I burned through (3) of these damn things:

The damn Dorman fix would fail every 3-6 months!

Wish the washer was a bit bigger, but it’s the best we had laying around and I think it’ll be ok.

I'm just scared to drill that tiny nipple, afraid I'll drift off center..

It seems twisted

The cable end does seem a little twisted sometimes but I can reach it with my fingertips to snap it back in but this usually is only good for the day.

The dorman fix has been working for me over a year, but I had also noticed my shifter cable had a little twist to it.
Maybe some are twisted more than others..

I wonder if separating the cable halves and re-attaching will eliminate the twist?

mine has been fine now for close to 5 years I think, every time I look at it, it looks the same as it did when I made it. the inner grommet is still required, the washer and cotter pin just prevent it from popping off again

Maybe some are twisted more than others..

the metal is not hardened a drill goes right thru it, if by chance you messed it up the arm can be replaced easily.

2+ years and still going ...welded new shaft, no grommet
