2005 Tahoe wont reverse and makes loud noise in neutral.

Hey everyone!
I have a 2005 Tahoe 2wd. One day the shift linkage bushing popped off while I was in the drive thru with my family. Luckily it was still in drive so I could take it home. Replaced the bushing and noticed it had no reverse but would drive forward so I drove around the block and it popped off again on the test drive. Got it home by manually putting it back into drive. I attempted to install a new bushing and when I was testing it shifting into gear it still had no reverse and made a loud noise like something was hitting something when in neutral. But the noise stopped when I shifted into reverse or drive. I also have to mention that when I did put it in drive it took a lot for it to move forward like I’d press down on the gas which normally would get it moving pretty quick and it was moving at a crawl. I’m not a mechanic but I’m capable when. It comes to doing repairs myself. If anyone can help me out with some information I’d really appreciate it since I can’t afford to take it to a shop after being in the hospital for 2 months dealing with serious health issues.

I have personally had the "no reverse" problem gobs of years ago with a Turbo 400 in an old Chevy square body. @NickTransmissions is who will have an answer for this but I would bet it involves transmission removal and tear down.

When the transmission is warmed up, is the fluid level in the HOT zone on the dipstick when tested correctly?

And what does a fluid sample look like on a white towel?

This sounds like a hard part failure inside the transmission, perhaps gear train and/or sun shell. But that's based solely on your description above. I'd drop the pan and see what's at the bottom. If there's a whole bunch of kibbles and bits, burnt clutch material and the like, put the pan back on with a few bolts and yank it out for overhaul.
