I purchased a new dorman shift lever boot.
Anything I need to watch out for? I don't want to lose any small parts that may come flying out..
I do see a torx screw on top that should release the lever..

Also, my suburban came with just one aftermarket key. Sometimes I need to jiggle it into position to start.
Can a dealer cut me a new key based on my VIN? Or do go see a locksmith instead?
Not worried about the VATS since it can be tuned out, but I'd like a key that doesn't get hung up every now and then..

the dealer can cut a key from the key code they get from gm
there is no chip or transponder on the key on the gmt800, the HALL sensor is in the ignition housing
as for the boot, I could never get one on over the shifter arm without it ripping
if you remove the shifter arm there's a pretty good chance the tow wire will break unless you are very careful it has to be removed from the harness
the wire is thin and already weakened from the up/down movement of the arm.

I replaced the shift lever on my 99 Silverado because the wire had broken for the tow_haul mode.

This was around 2019 maybe and also used the Dorman version. No issues. I don't recall any complications replacing it.

Great tip, I totally forgot about the tow mode button! Will look for the harness connector before removing...

Regarding the keys/ignition cylinder.. I see ebay has some kits with keys, cylinder and locks..
I'm sure it costs more than having the dealer cut a key.. But I hate going to the dealer..
Plus that would eliminate any possible issue with the cylinder, and the listings come with 3 keys..

Is replacing the ignition cylinder easy since I already have the column plastic removed?

It seems pretty easy...

Although I will have to replace the door lock as well if I go the ebay route..
One thing I really like about the GMT-800 is how easily the door panels lift off.

$120 for 3 keys, ignition, door and spare tire lock on ebay. (New OEM strattec)
Another ebay seller can cut keys by code for $25 a key, but it sounds like I need to remove the cylinder to find the key code.
