Any good tips for cleaning heavy stains and rust off of the chrome rims? Or are they going to stay that way now that the chrome has been eaten through.

Depends on how bad they are...

For the rust...

Navel Jelly works good.

Also A/C coil cleaner (phosphoric acid) works well.

Coca Cola has phosphoric acid as well but not as concentrated.
