Remove or black out chrome strip on doors

IMHO vinyl wraps look way better than plastidip, but are a pain in the arse to install. If there was an EASIER way of removing/installing those trims, it would make wrapping or painting a breeze. If Plastidip had a smooth glossy finish (like vinyl wraps), then I'd spray it. Personally, I don't like Plastidip's finish.

I installed mine back in March and it still looks great. And I pressure wash my Hoe every week.

My vinyl wrap is holding up great and it looks really good. I did the gloss because my Suburban is all blacked out and the gloss blends in with the paint and my windows that are very dark at 4% all the way around.

idk if it has been said but if you want to remove all the chrome trim, just wait for the OEM RST parts to come out - those should be black I'm thinking and a direct replacement.

I think some of the window trims are riveted...which means you'll have to drill them to get them out...and then rivet the replacement ones in. If someone shows a video of this being done...and it's simple enough...I'll do it.

It’s a few pieces, I had the guy who tinted my windows do the vinyl wrap and it was the 1st time he did it and came out great!

door molding removed

It is glued on, won't leave any holes, park it outside in the hot sun for a bit then take some fishing line and run it in between the body and the molding, should cut the adhesive right in half then pull off the molding

For anyone interested in the black RST trim. Per my body shop, it is easy to get done. Haven’t got it done yet, but around $1,500 total cost.

NO way. I get the part numbers from the dealer and shop around online. I did buy the new color matched grille from the dealer, but paid much less than retail.

Tint shop did mine, clean job:
Window trim wrap $100
Front grille: $150
They had it for 5 hours. The material is relatively inexpensive.

I was going to paint my trim around the windows, but decided to take a stab at wrapping it myself, I ordered a 75ft 4" roll of 1080 3m gloss black vinyl and I spent pretty much the entire day applying it...the rear chrome trim on the C pillar was one pc. the top and bottom trim on the back door was 1pc on top and 1 on the bottom, and on the front doors it was a little tough with the angle as it turns, so I actually had to do 3 pcs, but there is a section split on the top, and the other section to meet was under the mirror. Since it is gloss black, you really need to get up close to see the lines. For a first time do it yourself, I am pretty satisfied...did it now about 2 months ago and nothing is peeling or lifting, so I think it is fair to say that this is a good option. I still need to do something about the running board trim...might actually have to Plasti dip that, and the keyless door buttons...could not get the wrap material to stick.

As far as the emblems, tooth floss and an eraser wheel is the ticket, also don't wait when you get your trucks to remove the emblems, best to remove them right away...my emblems were off 2 days after it came home.

For the Denali guys wanting to remove the rear chrome trim over the LP, that I believe is one solid part that is glued on...best to heat up with a Heat Gun and use some fishing line through the back...keep it even and try to run the line all the way across, if you pull up on it the chrome edges could bite the paint, so you need to try and lift it off evenly. Then use an eraser wheel to clear all the glue, wax and you are done.

3m makes an adhesive remover found at your local auto parts store which I have used and works great and I have heard of others using Goofoff.

If anyone around Texas looking to black out their yukon XL or Suburban/escalade I will gladly swap my black running boards/roof rails or other trim for your chrome ones. Will even come to your place and uninstall/install.

(Sorry to bump this old thread. I couldn't find anything recent. )

Hating the chrome strip on the doors of my '19 and definitely thinking of pulling it off. Good to know there's nothing underneath, that makes me less scared... but still a little scared.

I have an appointment on Thursday to get the windows tinted. I might ask if they would wrap the chrome around the windows. Anyone who has done that - how does it hold up?
