Reduce engine power???????

that is what is reading in the display center. what does it mean? it also starts to feel like its running out of gas.
this is happenin in my sisters 08 yukon.

Did she add a programmer or something? If she hasn't been messing with anything like that she probably get it checked out asap esp. if she really is losing power. Mine says that for a second after I installed the Hypertech programmer but I was told it was normal.

disconnect battery for a few seconds, rehook up....should clear it.

mine did it several times when the HIDs shocked the system on start up. I just did the battery thing, reset and rocked on.

If it does it again, see if it sends any codes.

If that didn't fix it I would start by cleaning the throttle body.

well the dealership said the same thing abouth the throtlebodyis full of carbon. and they also said thathe spark plugs that i used bosch double platrinum, arent compatible with the truck. i believe the throlttel body thing but the spark plugs?

could, I have heard the E3 plugs giving codes and issues...so yes, I could see that.

+1. From everything I have heard, unless you have pretty major performance upgrades (i.e. Supercharger) there is no need to replace plugs or wires with anything but OEM plugs.

As far as the "Reduced Engine Power." I am pretty sure that means your rig went into Limp Mode. Your engine will do that when it senses something is wrong and does that too reduce the chances of causing anymore damage to the engine. Try the battery disconnect or run it to a dealer. Its hard for me to believe that an 08 would have that dirty of a throttle body.

+1. I have heard something like this happening along with other things at the same time. The engine reduced its power and threw other codes, because there was a cracked spark plug on the engine. If I remember correctly it also through messages like service Stabilitrak, etc. Make sure you get it checked out. There's more than likely a serious reason it went to this "limp" mode.

I have an 05 Tahoe, it went into "power reduced mode" 2 years ago. I have a code reader and eraser and it kept happening over and over again, even after disconnecting the battery. the codes were all for throttle body and pedal position sensor faults. I replaced the battery and everything's been fine since. However its started happening again so I replaced the battery again thinking it was the culprit, 3 weeks later(yesterday) it started to do it again. My brother is an ASE master tech and he said it does that when there's low voltage, Ive started to watch my volt meter in my dash cluster and it sways a bit(between 10 and 16 volts); possibly need a new alternator?? its becoming a consistant pain in my ass.

Apparently you can use the Onstar button and they can tell you what the problem is...

onstar only tells you the codes, which is what my code reader does. im thinking it may be my alternator due to the voltage fluctuations at a steady rpm

My 07 Yukon did the same thing last year... the mechanic I go to said the alternator (or regulator?) was bad. Put a new one on it and it hasn't done it since.

Worth a try.

Hey Jay, just wondering if you still haven't had an issue since the alternator replacement? My '07 Tahoe recently started with the "limp mode" problem ("service stabilitrak, service traction control, reduced engine power"). Started a couple of months ago and it only about once a week, now does it every 10 miles or so! Have to stop and restart to reset it just to get moving again. I do notice the altmeter guage fluctuates up and down also, and I wasnt sure if this was normal. Has 97000 miles on it. Please let me know if your problem was similar and if the alternator fixed the problem (alt is around $300 so I want to be sure that is it first). Thanks.

Bought new alternator and installed it. Waste of money. Went into limp mode within an hour.
