Thinking about swapping to an Escalade 3rd brake light. It appears you have to swap the rear glass hatch complete as the light base is glued to the glass and will not come off without breaking.

How does one go about removing the glass hatch assembly from the lift gate? Thanks.

Yes, the little c shaped washers around the hinges are all that hold glass hatch to those hinges on the top of the tailgate. I have pulled mine off multiple times. It’s pretty simple. Also the third tail light can be removed from the hatch without breaking, it’s just really difficult and tedious. Lol. However the gmc and Chevy hatches are actually different than the escalade hatches. The Chevy and gmc hatches have a big dip shaped groove in the top of the hatch to accommodate the third tail light that fits in the middle because it’s mounted in the door jamb of the tailgate. The Escalade hatch is flush across the top of the glass since the esky light mounts to the glass. So it’s better to mount the esky third light to an esky hatch to get it to mount correctly and have all the screw holes line up that attach the light to the base.
