Trying to get the OEM foglights working on a 1997 Tahoe using stock parts adn harnesses.
Schematics show a feed from the DRL module (daytime running lights modue) to the fog light switch.
Two questions:
1) Is a DRL from a 1999 or a 1998(years the fogs were offered by GM) the same as a 1997( fogs not offered from GM that year)

2) Where physically is the DRL module in a 1997?

Thanks in advance
Tony

I thought the fog lights came on the 99 and 2000 Tahoe limited and Z71. I personally haven't seen them on prior years, but I know on mine they are wired together with the day time running lights. Try looking at the 2000 obs Tahoe or Denali for wiring for the fog lights.

As far as I've been able to figure out, the in-bumper fog light option came only on 1999 or 2000 limited or Z71 packages.

That being said you only need the bumper, lights, mounting buckets, underhood harness, under dash harness, fog light switch and appropriate filler plate for the foglight switch(either in the horizontal 4 x 4 slot or in the vertical 3-slot plate) to add this factory option to any OBS style Tahoe.
All the parts except for the mounting buckets are readily available.
I have p/ns if anyone is interested.

The underhood harness is simple, 1 connection to each of the foglights, one ground lug and a connection to the headlight( actually its disconnect the existing headlight lead from headlight, plug that into the foglight harness and plug the foglight harness into the headlight.)

Under dash is even more simple, one end to the dash switch you just added.
One three prong plug into bottom most slot of fusebox at drivers left foot and a single lead into the same fuse box in the adjacent fusebox slot. Drill a hole in the firewall, pull connector thru and connect to the underhood harness. Also have to mount the relay body to ground.

This last single lead is whats kicking my @## right now. Its a gray lead that I belive is for dash/switch illumination. My fusebox has the correct slot, it's just not pinned, I'm looking for a location where i can jump this grey lead into.

My problem is I'm ok mechanically but timid electrically.
I do not want to screw anything up; lights are not in or functional, yet.

One final observation the GM stuff(used or new) is fine.
The aftermarket stuff, bumper, bumper strips and lights are crap.

Tbruz:

Did you figure your fog lights out? I have a 99 that the previous owner installed the bumper and lights, but did not hook them up. I would appreciate the info/part #'s so I could complete the install. Thanks in advance.

You can't buy the fog switch anymore, have to find it on eBay, private sale, or pull one from an escalade/Denali in the junkyard.

Didn't see this post until Sunlit PM'd me

There are 7 parts required to add STOCK foglights to any of our OBS rigs.

1) Bumper: GM pn 15680830 is chrome smooth(no bumper guard or strip holes) LMC sells other options but the holes are not aligned and my LMC bumper shows signs of rust after less than 12 months on my truck
2)Fog Lamps: 2 required p/n 12477563; available aftermarket or Ebay
3)Fog Light buckets(NLA);
left is p/n 15045495
right is p/n 15045494
4) Fog light switch for vertical position p/n 15738877 (NLA) found occasionally on Ebay. If you go into the horizontal position; usually used by the push button 4wd system, the fog light switch is 15687022, again Ebay is your best shot for this.
5) Switch bezel plate vertical mounting, PN varies based on 1 hole 15694888(barn doors w/fog lights) or 3 hole 15696254( tail gate, wiper and fog light). If you go into the horizontal position, 1 hole Bezel is 15696260
6) Interior harness (NLA from GM) p/n 15743770 was available from Vintage parts
7) exterior harness(NLA from GM) p/n 15045442 was available from Vintage Parts

An option to the two GM harnesses is a single harness option from EBAY; Search on your year tahoe fog light harness. I haven't used that so I cannot vouch for it, but it looks like it could/might work. Item number 160492876415 is currently on Ebay and looks like you send your switch to them and they wire it up and send back a working harness/switch combo.

Let me know if you need further help.

Thanks Tbruz. I will start collecting the parts and if I run into any problems, I will definitely hit you up. As you can see from one of my earlier posts, I have the bumper and lights but the previous owner did not finish hooking them up.

And thanks to Sunlit Comet for the assistance.

If anyone is interested, OEM Stock Fog Light buckets (left and right) for the OBS in-bumper fog lights are currently available on EBAY; seller has 67 sets!!!
These are NLA parts from GM and were extremely difficult to locate.
