The tape worked for me - as you said, about 80% of the time. This has been an issue since I bought this 22Yukon SLE. I know what might be said next, but I also had the entire windshield ceramic tinted at 40% but this had happened even before that was done. With black interior the heat rejection from this tint is huge for me, and I will not go back to no tint, anyway I ended up finding the part # 13545621 off of some GMParts web site for just under $10 then shipping made it total of $17 - I replaced it in about 5-7 min. today and it ran for the rest of the day as intended. DRL's on in the day, when it was getting dark, and with some heavy rain clouds moving in, the headlights kick on as it should. Even in a partially shaded carport, the DRL's stayed on as desired (during day time). I dare say that the issue is now resolved without the BCM flash.

Good deal. I’m all fixed as well with my eBay part. All that being said, has anybody done the software update and can verify it fixed anything?

I'll skip that since the fix is to replace the Ambient Sensor (at least for me and some others in this thread).

I did go to one of the GMC dealers nearby a few months back, and explained the issue, they could tell that I had the windshield tinted, but asked me if I did anyway, when I said yes they immediately said this is why I was having the issue. Welp, replacing the ambient sensor proved them wrong. Since replacement on Saturday, that day was sunny, and overcast, Sunday was mostly cloudy, and today was all sunshine. Only the DRL's were on as they should be during the day, then when it got to be evening and the sun was all but down, the headlights took precedence as they should.

My 2022 Tahoe is at the dealer now for this issue (among others). They're telling me (even though I told them what part was needed to be replaced and that it's quite known online) there's no issues with the sensor because there's no error codes and that the main control board had an update which according to them should fix this issue. I guess we'll see. I asked if they drove it to see if it was fixed and the person acted like they did, but who knows if that's true. It's pretty easy to tell if/when the headlights come on in broad daylight.

If they didnt change the part, but did an update to the bcm then they did the software fix instead if the hardware. Some folks were having the hardware get changed but not fixing the issue.

It's strange that some fixes are the software side, and others have fixed just by replacing the $9 sensor. It leads me to believe that there are 2 separate issues happening, or there was just a bad batch of sensors initially installed, but could then be corrected with BCM flash update or simply replace the sensor itself. Hah ! Unless they are just replacing the sensor, but just saying they did a software update. Because unless that sensor has completely failed, they would not get an error code on a diagnostics check it's still working just not the way it should. IMO

My guess is that there are multiple sensor suppliers (or revisions)...possibly a new supplier was brought on board to mitigate a supply chain issue.
And that the range of signal describing the received light output is different on the different sensors.
So the solution is either unify on one range of sensor...or update the software to handle both...which one do you think costs GM less money?

Sensor replaced on my Tahoe... did not fix the problem.
Brought it back in for the software update and that fixed it.

Just did the software update today with the PIT# provided a couple pages back. So far on my hour drive after, works as it should. I'll be able to confirm after this weekends trip cross the state.

Because $15.00 and literally 2 minutes of my time is worth not having to drive an hour each way to the dealer and wait god knows how longer for them to fix it. That is why!

That is a good reason, except if you happen to get a replacement sensor that doesnt fix the issue. There isnt another dealer closer than an hour away? Any dealer should be able to provide warranty work. Or when you go in for oil change have it done then?.

Just saw this article from a few days ago about the issue. I did get an OTA update on my 22 Tahoe over the weekend and I did it. Wasn’t sure what it was for. I have the replacement sensor in right now. Wife drives it so I’m not sure if it is still operating right. I’ll install the original sensor and hopefully it will now work.
I did the OTA update this week as well and replacement (old p/n old s/n) sensor seems to still be working. Not sure if the OTA update covered this issue and the original will work now. Figured I’ll leave it alone ‍♂️

I just picked up my ‘22 off lot and it has production of 6/22 and it has this issue. I guess the BCM update is the official fix correct?

It didn’t work. Reinstalled the replacement sensor I bought off eBay a few months ago and it continues to work.

I took my Yukon to the dealer yesterday. They informed me of a recall and they were updating the sensor. It seems to have worked. I drove home in bright sunshine and no problems with the headlights coming on at all. My DRL worked as I hoped they would.
