your probably right that i am gonna put more money into it thatn it is worth.. but i love these obs yukes and hoes since i had my first one.. so here we go with 8k worth of parts. 2800 for engine 600 for 454 tb and injectors 300 for fuel pump chip and fuel pressure spring. 180 for headers and collectors 200 for high flow cats 200 for flowmaster 50 series mufflers 60 bucks for my new blacked out grill. 90 for headlights and corners and 2 more pages of odds and ends from water pump to o2 sensors windshield mirrors and cargo doors. oh and forgot the rims and tires i have to get before i get the chip so the shift points and the spedo can be calibrated correctly.

Ok. got the yuk home today.. and for ***** and giggles i threw a battery in it even though the guy said the motor was trashed and wouldn't run... well he was wrong.. took a lot of cranking but it finally fired up and idled by herself.. lots of fuel smoke and she sounds a little out of time.. no engine knocks though.. maybe i have a little more time to get the new engine and i can focus on the appearance after i do a tune up and check the timing.. does anyone know why besides timing a truck would run so rich that it would smoke up the entire block.. i mean it was bad.. misfiring at first until i got her revved up a ways around 3k then it only really smokes when i get into it but it does miss regularly but no backfires... just lots of smoke with missing and stuttering when you give it gas.

it is fuel smoke.. extremely gas filled rich smoke.. like i seafoamed the truck with 4 cans. it cleared up i had her running today already also.. still missing but i think i flooded the hell out of her cause she was sitting and to get her to fire up i had my foot to the floor. fires up on first try now.. need to do a tune up and some other odds and ends.. to see how she responds.. no water in oil.. antifreeze looks good too just a little low.. hole in the overflow reservoir. she is still running rich and missing but getting better every time i mess with her.. gonna clean the throttle body tomorrow and seafoam her and do an oil change and see how she responds.. then plugs wires cap and rotor.. no ses light so im hoping it isnt anything to do with the pcm

she has been sitting for months.. this is the first time she has been started since september.. the guy thought the engine was locked up... so she needs some tlc.. gonna do a standard tune up and oil and filter change and clean the tb and injectors this weekend. so far anything i do to her makes her run smoother.. i just ran a can of intake cleaner through the tb and she idles much better.. but still misses.. think its plugs and stuff.. she looks l;ike the person that owned her before didnt know what regular maintenance was

well.. i am totaly and utterly depressed. was doing great today.. put on a msd distributor cap, rotor new plugs and wires.. was about to check the timing.. truck sounded good.. got on my step and leaned in to watch the timing.. and she started screeching. i ran to the cab and checked the gauges while trying to shut her down.. no oil pressure.. before i got the key turned she locked up. so now it is back to the original plan of getting the 383 built before i get her on the road.. damn.. i was hoping to be able to drive here while i was waiting for my upgrades.. f my life

That sucks! Did it start leaking oil somewhere or was it using oil and you forgot to top off the levels or what??

the fuel pump was still running when it locked up.. so i dont know.. when the 383 gets droped in a new fuel pump comes with the chip for the pcm so it will be replaced. earlier in the day when i was moving it around i got out to lift the hood and it died for no reason (probably lost oil pressure) and i dint know what happened so i restarted it and wen on about my buisness cause when i fired it back up the gauges looked spot on...

ok. explaing this to me.. i wnet out and turned on teh ignition to listen to the stereo while i installed the radio and stuff to make sure it worked.. but i turned it too far and it started... no knock or squeal.. but almost immediatly the oil pressure droped to 0 and i killed it to prevent damage.. wth..

unknown at this time.
Okay, perhaps that lockup you thought you had was the fuel pressure being shut down just in time and the screeching was the start of heat build up and thermal breakdown of oil that could not be dissipated because a lack of oil movement. At any rate if it started and ran smooth then get that distributor out and use a oil pump adapter to run it with a drill and see if you are building pressure and the oil showing up on the valve assemblies. if not then try a new filter and oil and try again with priming. if still nothing then by all means replace your pump and prime it again before starting. I think it is worth a shot.
