I havent had any experience with other manufacturers power fold mirrors, but are they any better / worse?
Far better. My 2015 Grand Cherokees are decent, quieter and smoother. My 2014 Lexus GS 350 they fold every time you lock/unlock and they are seamless. Completely quiet and smooth. But that's something you'd expect from a Lexus.

Its something any of us would expect from a 40k-60k vehicle and todays current tech. But we still get cheap ass parts for some reason......

Chad - Youre talking about a one year and two year old vehicle. Of course they are going to be working just fine. My buddies 08 Avalanche is still working just fine, and he uses it at least twice a day. I'm not doubting theres issues with the gears - Im just curious what other vehicled from 2007+ have power fold that still work as good as new.

And Im sorry, but Lexus quality, give me a break. You do realize 99.9% of all components from all cars come from nearly the same places. Lexus has no better quality than anything else.

I drive a 06 Mercedes S class, and the mirrors are excellent. Smooth as silk, and I use them every time I park.

You sound like a *****. The GC came out in 2010 as a MY2011 so... And if all of the parts do come from the same place like you say, well Lexus sure did choose to use a hella higher quality part from the same company.

^^It won't let me edit my post but fwiw, I didnt say they were working just fine. I said they were quieter and smoother. I have never had an issue with any of my folding mirrors for GM, they're just loud and occasionally pop.

The mirrors on my 07 still work great with regard to the power fold and we use them every time we park or pull into the garage. Just recently my driver mirror stopped tilting the glass down when I put the vehicle in reverse but other than that they work well. They've always been pretty noisy when folding, though.

No ***** here, just stating that comments like that make people sound uninformed about the reality of things.

Every manufacturer has a problem or two here and there. American cars have as good of quality as European or Japanese these days. And I agree- if you look at the country of origin on parts, they all share parts manufacturers. Just don't try working on a German car though. They build them explicitly to not be user friendly when it comes time to repair their over-engineered vehicles. My daughter had a VW and it was the most ridiculously difficult car I've ever worked on, just stupid and complicated.

Whenever we get German or Swedish (Volvo) in the shop we take a vote of who's been a moody ******* over the previous week and make them fix it. They're ass backwards on engineering and most components are far more brittle than any other make.

You are ridiculous. All I said was that my Lexus has the quietest folding mirrors of the 3 that I've used and you freaked out. Lol

Actually you're the one who freaked out when it was suggested that your Lexus isn't that much more quality-wise than a GM. And his point about your comparisons are on 2 and 3-year old cars regardless of the year they were introduced. They're still 2014 and 2015's, so they have only been in use since 2014 or 2015. First you called him an *******, then you called him ridiculous. His points are valid. Yours aren't. And if anybody is being ridiculous or an *******, take a look in the mirror. Then, try to relax. We're all family here.

I never called him an *******. I said *****. Second, I hate the Lexus, it's had amongst the most problems of any of my vehicles. All I was saying was its mirrors were quieter. But thanks, mediator.

Finally got the little plastic gears in today. See if I get some time and try the install. They certainly don't look worth the price. We shall see if they last. Hate to be replacing them every few months. It looks pretty complicated.

They work! I did the gear replacement today. Took me about 1 1/2 hours for the first one, the second one about 45 minutes. The directions on their web site are very good. Trickiest part for me was unsnapping the glass mirror from the housing. I managed to do it all without breaking any of the plastic tabs.
The mirrors have never been this quiet while folding. They also are nice and solid, no more flappy crappy mirrors. Woo Hoo....

Looks to be made of a different type of plastic is all I could see. $50 bucks worth? Well, it's cheaper than new mirrors with the same plastic gear that fails for sure. Time will tell. And they do have a lifetime warranty. And they state they tested them for thousands of cycles.
