I checked out dipyourcar.com and watched a video of them plasti-dipping a whole car and I'm kinda interested in this. Have any of you done this? I know tons of you have plasti-dipped grilles and trim etc but I haven't seen the whole car. I'm wanting to go from silver to matte white. I'm wondering how this holds up and if it's going to turn into a nightmare for me or it really is durable and will look professional.
I've looked into wraps but they cost a bit much for what it is. This also looks very easy to remove and reapply if there is a bad section/scratch.

My neighbor had a line-x'd silverado. It looked good. Not sure if it's the same look though.

I've seen an older pickup that was rhino lined completely. It looked good, but not for me. I'm sure that the rhino liner material is much more durable than the plastidip.

You can reduce plasti dip to be sprayed out of a paint gun which would yield better results then spray cans. I do not know remember the specifics with it but remember there was a ton of info on doing it.

Rhino lining and Line-x are completely different.

I could never convince myself to RhinoLine a entire car. That stuff does look great but for a Daily Driver the extra weight alone.....

Also, it is permanent. Looks good on a truck's "truck" ie. offroad type.

NOT a Escalade.

Your best option is Wrap.

On the PlastiDip.... I would ONLY do it in black. I looked into this before.... I read where some guy did a "follow up" after 6 months of living with it. He said the stains ie. bugs, bird crap, other crap, etc. stain the PlastiDip. Also, it starts to turn yellowish in color.

PlastiDip also has to be applied evenly to look good, which is hard to do on a billboard sized truck. Uneven textures reflect uneven light, which looks ghetto. The stuff has also to be applied thick to be removable in "sheets". Otherwise have fun cleaning the stuff.

So do it in black, or wrap in white.

Here, check out the video:

http://www.dipyourcar.com./pages.php?pageid=32

It's a kit they sell with their own gun they develpoed with wagner. I'd never rhino lino the thing ...too permanent but the plasti-dip can be taken off if i hate it or need to redo. Just wondering if anyone has done it. I know it's an escalade but it's an 07 now so not worth as much any more :)

I wouldn't do it to my escalade, just b/c it's a luxury vehicle, and think matte colors are best left to sport cars.... BUT i do have a porsche cayman S that I'm willing to try out that kit with.... For less than 400 bucks seems like it's worth a shot, and I can take it off after a month or two fairly easily.

Honestly, if I had the time, I would try it for the $400 or so it would cost. Work and kids consume 900% of my time...I gotta literally fit the modding in from 7-12 sat mornings :) I know this whole idea of spray painting an escalade sounds a bit retarded but I have seen some pretty cool jobs done with it on the net. Just wondering if any of you can share the real world experience.
But hey, if it's good enough for this Rolls...

...yes, it was plasti-dipped!

I think I'll start with the wheels first and see how that works out...getting a bit tired of black. Maybe silver....or matte black. I know you'll all probably say keep em black...you're probably right but I've actually never been a fan of black wheels.

Yep..they have it in White. I did my black door handles to see how it looked. It was ok. However I just removed the plastic dipped handle part now and have the front and back sections of the door handles white.

As for the whole truck...Im going to do mine in matte black next spring.

I would completely abandon that idea.
It probably won't look good, and if it did, it won;t for very long.
The moment you run it though the wrong car wash your car will come out looking like ish.

^^ thats why one should always wash and detail their car. I pressure was my grill surround and emblem that were plasti-dipped over a year ago and its holding up great. My brother in law dipped his 22s and they still look like they did on day one.

x2 on this and can you imagine the beating it'll take from the sun?? You have to work at keeping regular paint that is clear coated looking good after being sun beaten but plasti dip or the "let's bed liner our entire ride phenoma" looks TERRIBLE after a very short time of being kick in the nuts by the sun.

Then one day a pebble (or big bug) hits it on the highway and it will be a goner. My grille is powder coated and still has a few chips on it. Plus, not everyone has the time to wash their car by themselves all the time.
My honest opinion of plasti-dip is a temporary way of corner cutting actually spray gunning/powder coating a piece.
It should only be used to get "a feel" of what a piece would like like painted in case one wants to reverse it after seeing the result without having to strip it like normal paint.

These cars are too classy (most of the time) to just be coated in plasti-dip!:Handshake:
