Paint touch ups and rust repair

I have a 2010 Yukon XL has some rust spots so doing some fixes.
Rattle can paint paint and clear.
So far I’ve sanded out the easy surface rust spots, prime then paint. Seams to look ok. Not perfect but I’m ok with that.

One spot I did a tape line then colour sanded then moved the line to spray clear. Looks ok colour is a hair off but I’m ok with that. Looks better then rust.

Working on some rust around the fuel door that was right through so had to cut it out and whip up a patch panel. First go at these kinda repairs turned out ok so far. Had to dig out all the foam behind. There was a hole in the back panel I think this is what started the rust. Water was able to get in from behind and sit on the ledge above the rear plastic bumper.

Got several more spots to do. I’ll probably be a lot better at blending the paint when I do the last one. Lol.

For those that know what grit wet paper do I need to go to before I buff?? I have 2000 but probably need to go to 3000? Thanks.

Your able to buff the scratches from 2000 out? I can still see them in the right light. Maybe I need more aggressive compounds?

Yes,a hole opened up in the back allowing water in.You can see in the pic above 733a.I covered it and will seal from the back with something,silicone or the like.

Digging out more rust. There’s a plastic peace that fits under the lip creating a place for the plastic bumper to slide in. One of the thread things rusted out so will have to make a new spot for the clip.

Another spot I’m just gonna put a piece behind to give the bottom some support. Just gonna leave the bottom open so it will drain in the future. It’s all hidden by the plastic bumper cover.

Try M105 with an orange pad sometime, it will clear up 2000 grit no problem.

Goggle says Bracket retainer nut.

Bondo sanding. Made a curved sanding block to match the body. Makes it a little easier.

Sanding bondo. Not much fun. Getting ready to spray some primer too see where I am.

working also on sanding headlights. They were really foggy.Quite yellow. A lot of wet sanding later and not too bad.

Bit of whoops on my first blend attempt. Tried wet sanding down the tape line and now have a blurry patch.

Colour doesn’t match anyway so will clean off the wax sand it all with 1500 and see if I can match a little better. I think I’ll add more clear also.I’ll tape some raised curved masking also to try and blend the clear in.

You did a pretty good job. You definitely should clear the headlights after wet sanding them. Make sure you use something with uv protection in it.

Not really sure. Maybe you can inquire at a place that sells body shop supplies? When I used to do them for my business I'd use a 2 part clear that I'd apply with a limitless towel. It had a uv blocker in it. Unfortunately I used to buy it from the trade school I went to, and they rebottled with their own name on it.

Ill do some research thx,spraying my 1k clear on maybe an option.
