This might sound stupid, but do you have the right amount of oil in there? Also, check the sending unit, but to be on the safe side I would replace the oil pump. If it still acts up then its going to be the sending unit behind the manifold, or the gauge itself.

yo, heres whats wrong. You gotta worn out oil pump. Gonna have to take off the oil pan and put a new one in. Id go with a HP Meling. Im getting ready to do this on my 97 this weekand along with a new timing gear set and the new optima. Trust me replace the oil pump and you can thank me later

if light is coming on, its reading low pressure, so for the mean time, until you can change oil pump, use thinner oil. How many miles on this?

Just curious...is the oil guage on our trucks a dummy guage or is it supposed to fluctuate with RPMs?

some good guys can slip new main bearings in from the bottom and never pull crank...

Ya and they also don't know what the journals on the crankshaft look like on the top. He would have been better off just buying a reman crank and bearing set, timing chain and oil pump with screen.

Well I've been drag racing, doing mods on engines since I was 15 and I can honestly tell you that by not pulling the crank out and at least having it checked then you are asking for trouble man! If the crank is scarred in any way it will chew up/burn or spin s bearing quick! Be safe and listen for abnormal noises! Use Castrol GTX 10w30! I have put bearings in like that before too, but only because I needed a motor to hold up for maybe a few quick races til I got the money to put a Crank Kit in it! Not trying to rain on what may seem a good thing to you, but ID be cautious with this deal!!!
