i have a 2006 tahoe, 5.3 flex fuel, 85K miles. usually i have a shop do the oil change with regular oil but this time i did it myself and used mobil1 extended performance 5w-30 and the mobil1 filter. the manual said 6 quarts, so i put in 6 quarts.
My oil dipstick has the 5 holes. Usually my oil runs at the 4th hole. Now with 6 quarts, it looks to be 1 hole above the 5th hole (a little above the hatch marks) with the engine warm.
I never really noticed the oil pressure guage unless i am cruising at 70 for a long trip and start going up a steep hill. now i notice the needle moving more often when i accelerate. the oil pressure is 38-40 at idle and gets to around 50 at 70mph, but i havent seen it go above 60.
Is higher oil pressure a good thing? Is the oil over-filled to a dangerous level that i need to drain some out ASAP? Is the overfilled oil causing the pressure variations or is it the change to synthetic oil?
