Oil Pan Drain Bolt Size/Special Tool?

2003 Avy with the 5.3
Been trying for over an hour to get it out to no avail.
15mm is too big and 9/16 is too small.
Is there yet another proprietary tool that I need to buy?!
Also, assuming I actually can get it out eventually, what can I get to replace it?
I do not want to use that garbage again.

Are you using a 12pt or a 6pt socket. If your using a 15mm 12 pt, try a 6 pt. They handle slightly rounded off heads better.

I have also sacrificed a feeler gauge or two to shim out the flats a little.

Should be a 15mm

Before removing it, go buy a new one if the head on that one is buggered.

Then use vice grips to remove the old one. Clamp on the head then tap hadle with hammer to loosen.

Or try a set of these....

Gotta stop puttin the drain plugs on with impacts....

I feel like the previous owner got that thing from a VW.
At closer inspection, it looks like some sealant was put on it and some got around the head of the bolt. Still wasnt a 15, but deff altered enough to make it near impossible to remove.

Got a new Dorman which was actually a 15mm.
One that came off was nothing like the replacement.
