Newly-purchased 2007 PPV. Mobil One EP with a Mobil One filter. I plan to run it to 10,000 miles once, and do an oil test when I change it. They say M1 EP is guaranteed to 15,000 miles.
It's usually around 7500mi for normal driving but it changes with your driving style and loads put on the engine. If you hot-rod it or tow it'll need it sooner.
I just can't bring myself to trust these high mileage guaranteed oils. It was hard enough to start listening to the DIC oil life monitor instead of changing every 3k mi.
My dealer recommends changing oil every 5000 miles. I did my first change at 5k and switched to synthetic oil. I will continue to change every 5000 miles.
I just changed my 2010 Tahoe oil at the dealer, just over 3,000 miles. They use conventional oil so will keep the interval there. If I go synthetic once I'm doing the changes I'll run 5,000 miles.
I guess the reading about possible oiling problems related to AFM system failure have me changing oil at short intervals.
By the way, the last place you want to ask for oil change interval or oil type advice is an oil change place. In my experience they have no clue.
The indicator only estimates oil life, doesn't actually see the oil, it take some input from the driving pattern and estimates life. I'd much rather go by miles. In my case I put a lot of miles on, probably 25,000/year on this vehicle, and the % of highway to city doesn't change much.
