So, just jumped in my Yukon started it up, I'm sitting here idling and I hear a loud, metallic noise, kind of like a large, heavy metal gate opening, lasting about 5 seconds, thoughts?

Heat, no wipers, I can hear the compressor engaging, other than that, maybe radio. Ran a tad rough for a few seconds before evening out.

It was so loud, I thought it had to do with a nearby train...until I realized there was no train, or any other machinery running near by. I have NEVER heard a noise like this before, especially not out of a truck.

I don't know man, but that was scary. It was almost similar to a long, low trumpet blast. Freakin' scary. I've heard some awful noises before, but this takes the cake.

Supposing it something didn't get oil, maybe a compressor or something, does that indicate a little or big issue?

I would just keep listening and see if you can hear it do it again or if it just happened this one time.

Yeah, it didn't do it again when I restarted it 10 minutes later. If it does become a more frequent problem, I have a feeling it will only do it at inopportune times, i.e. never in front of a mechanic and only in front of my cynical ass husband.

I would assume it would only do it after sitting for a long period of time if it is an oil problem.
