Stupid analogy. Cameras and gadgets are just that...gadgets. The addition of the 8-speed to the 6.2 DI engine will change the drive/feel/feedback of the entire vehicle. It'll feel lighter on its feet and have much more response. Remember, the differentials are also completely different as are the transfer case, programming, gear ratios (particularly 1st gear), and final drive ratios. It'll ALMOST be like the difference between the 5.3L and the 6.2L in FEEL.

Much like EVERY other manufacturer's vehicles that upgraded their transmissions with additional gears and programming (i.e. Porsche Cayenne, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Corvette, Mercedes-Benz, etc.). Just drive the pre-update, then the post update....night and day.

This is NOT a subtle addition. It's a monumental one. No one is bashing the 6-speed per se. But to suggest the 8-speed isn't a MAJOR MAJOR upgrade is ludicrous.

Agree.

And, I understand, those who have already bought their 6 speeds are pretty upset about the updates so soon. Not their fault to be upset. I would be royally pissed if I found out updates this massive incorporated within a few months of trucks debut. I would also defend my purchase, saying the 8 speed is illogical - useless upgrade and will not help the big massive SUV.

I just happened to be lucky / poor enough to not buy / need the SUV until now.

The way you feel about the camera is the way I feel about the trans.

I'm still waiting for the transmission fairy to upgrade my '99 to a 6 speed. I'll keep waiting, maybe they'll drop by with an 8 speed. And a 6.2l. And a bucket filled with *****, because I don't have any to give.

The camera is a subtle upgrade. The transmission is a monumental one. In the history of automobile progressive design, two upgrades...the powerplant and the transmission are generally considered major updates.

Glad you feel it's not significant. Perhaps you may have saved some money by getting the SLT vs. Denali. The 6-speed vs. 8-speed will feel THAT different.

They sell a lot more of the 5.3 motors than the 6.2's. Just saying.

For those who don't think the 8 will be a big difference, you are wrong.
Transmissions are just as important as the engine. From years of experience driving semi, I was always more concerned about the gearbox than the engine when it came to choosing a tractor.
Comparing a 10 speed to a 13 speed could make the same engine a different animal. Now with the new 18 speed transmissions that are shifted electronically, it's almost a joke how smooth the new semi trucks are.

My wife's Denali has been stuck in the mud at 1100 for 7 months now. For that, I am now grateful.

In the words of the great ChrisGPX, get another dealer if you're still at 1100 for 7 months. [emoji106]

It's not about changing dealers. There isn't allocation for any of them.

You guys will love this, GM accepted our order to build this week...with a 6 speed...
First to place an order, last to build.
I know why I'm a Ford guy, but my wife loves these GM SUV jokers..
I just got off the phone with our dealer and they are letting it come through to see what it ends up being. If it's a 6, we pass.

So, then we'll have to reorder because the banks aren't open yet to accept 2015i orders that specify the 8.
What a phucking joke..

I suspect that's what a dealer says when they don't have allotment but don't want the customer to go to another dealer who does. ;)

All this debate about a transmission that hasn't come out yet much less anyone here has had a chance to even test drive  imagine those waiting for the "2015.5" or selling a 2015 in prep for a 2015.5 if this 8 speed is a big pile of garbage :lol2:

I hear all the 5.3s are about to get a super spiffy CVT.

True story.
