Okay I am going to be replacing my cats soon on my 09 Tahoe Lt 5.3 4x4. I want to replace the O2 sensors at the same time. I can find OEM part numbers for the lower downstream sensors. But I cant locate OEM upsteam part number. Is there a number for the upstream sensor? If you are using aftermarket sensors. What are you using?
Thanks for your time and help?

Those are different sensors then, according to what I now see looking at 2009. What is the 8th digit of the VIN? Guessing, like we did do already, creates problems.

At RA-Front, both sides, 2133866 is $40.79 ea. and at RA-Rear, both sides, 2134229 is $40.79 each. All Genuine GM parts.

Sorry for my confusion, I just saw in the original post you said 09 and 5.3 engine and all that I needed but I was reacting to the (07) in your screen name. My bad, sorry.

I do suggest, that you put all pertinent vehicle info in your signature, so it is always there. I get lazy sometimes and don't read thoroughly the info in the post.

Sometimes it does make a difference whether it is flex fuel or not but this time no. When I read back, the flex fuel part was the only info omitted.

Thanks for the information and signature suggestion.
A follow-up question.
Looking a the description on GM parts source it says the following.
  • Genuine:
  • SKU:12609457
  • Positions:Left Rear, Right Rear, Rear
  • Other Names:Oxygen Sensor
  • Description:
This part requires programming and/or special setup procedures GM Service Information describes the procedures and special tools needed to ensure proper operation in the vehicle Detects oxygen content in the exhaust gases to help optimize emissions This GM Genuine Part is designed, engineered, and tested to rigorous standards and is backed by General Motors

I tried to look up what programming is required. I could not find anything. I never knew a O2 sensor needed to be programed. Is this correct and if so, what needs to be done? I have changed O2 sensors on other vehicles. But never had to program anything.

Erik

Uppers - 213-3866 or 12583804
Lowers - 213-4229 or 12609457

Don't use aftermarket sensors, they will mess up your trims in short order, the computer doesn't like them.

Why are you replacing your cats? What are you replacing them with?

I got the P0420 code. I tried a cat cleaner it worked short term. But the code came back. From research it seems that cat replacement is what will fix the problem. Because of finances I am looking a Walker OE direct replacement bolt on cats. I am considering replacing the system completely all new. The one thing that I can't find anyone have in stock is exhaust extension pipe that goes between the cat pipe and the muffler. I thought about doing only the O2 sensors. But I don't want to mess them up if the cats need to be replaced. Any input is appreciated.

This pic does not show a separate pipe.

They show one of the cats connecting to the "Y" section between the piping at front of muffler to the back of the D/S cat but I see no separate pipe.

The supplied pic shows as one piece but other manufacturers show a 2 piece set up.

Stock and that replacement from Walker are indeed 1 piece designs. My Magnaflow is 2-piece and has much better piping that flows better by itself.

New O2 sensors are not going to cure a P0420 if that's what you're thinking. You can replace the Y-pipe (with cats) without replacing your stock exhaust behind it.

Ok, I was looking for a "pipe only" and not a pipe/resonator. I am old. You have to be specific.

Example of this is the way I missed the vehicle info in your first post.

Good to know it is also known as a resonator. Walker just calls it a extension pipe. This is my first Tahoe. So I am learning on the fly. I appreciate your help and feed back.

Are you running a complete Magnaflow system Cats and Exhaust? Have you noticed any improvements in HP or gas mileage?

Well, after replacing the bad cat with a whole new Y-pipe my gas mileage certainly did get better. Since we were drag racing the truck, we did measure a 5 horsepower improvement as well. Not enough to feel but the mph in the quarter mile went up some.

Just the Y-pipe with the cats, still running the original exhaust behind it.
