What a slap in the face. It's like GM is winning all around on this 6.2 issue. On the flip side, my Denali is now a supercar. :)

It'd probably cost over $100 to do it yourself at 8qts + an AC Delco filter, then a trip back to the parts house to dump the oil, so I guess that's not too terrible.

You gotta buy in bulk. My oil change costs me about $34 with a 55 gallon drum of 5w-30 and buying GM filters in 12 packs.

What is the shelf life on the drum
Years. Oil doesn't go bad just sitting around. If it was going hot-cold-hot-cold then I could see some moisture possibly accumulating at the bottom. I've never worried about oil in a sealed container.

I found 70 year old oil in my grandfather's old work shop. It still looked as good as day one when I poured a little out.

Hm. Just asking cause years ago i considered getting a drum to pull from and i read the shelf life isn’t very long (crude may last forever but the processed oil for modern engines, specifically).. something about additives or something breaking down.

Sealed container maybe alright but how do you keep it good once you break the seal for first use ? You get 25+ oil changes from a drum so that will last quite some time if it’s just personal use and not a commercial operation

I have a hand pump that goes in the 2 inch bung, and the vent bung is only cracked for ventilation when pumping. I change oil on 4 to 5 vehicles, so a drum doesn't stick around longer than 2 years depending on who's driving where.

I don't really see additives breaking down when exposed to air and room temperature. Maybe I'm wrong, but most / all of them are designed to withstand high heat, gasoline, pressure, etc. I don't see a whiff of air doing any damage.

To each their own though.

Eh - $23 or so for a 5Q jug of the good stuff and 8-9 for a filter. Id say 55 for a DIY and the trip counts as the trip to the dealer...

..this Mobil 1 supercar oil doesn’t come in 5 gallon jugs
Based on Walmart prices of the oil and filter, I’d be saving about $58 for a DUI.. plus I can use my friend’s lift and he can use the oil in his waste oil furnace
Probably not worth my time.. just pisses me off that I was paying less for an oil change until GM forced my to go to another oil after the vehicle purchase!!!

Not even close. $35 for 10 quarts at Costco and about $7 for a good filter. $152? $169? Even factoring in the labor, thats just robbery.

Is that the new weight requirement (0W-40) oil?? Around here, and a lot of places online, finding 0W-40 full synthetic in stock is becoming a challenge due to this issue.

Personally I run the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-40 but can only find it on Amazon….when it’s in stock and the price isn’t elevated due to demand!
