Yikes, engine replacement costs are likely amortized in that $152

Looks like near $10/quart.
Many other vendors popped up for about the same amount.
Our town's recycling center takes used oil products for free.

Not even close. $35 for 10 quarts at Costco and about $7 for a good filter. $152? $169? Even factoring in the labor, thats just robbery.
0W-40 mobile 1 supercar or dexos R cost more than $35 for 10 quarts! Let me know where you can find this specific oil at your pricing?

Costs me just under $80 per oil change and I DIY. Pennzoil 0W40 Ultra Platinum (Yes, yes, yes, I fully know that this oil is NOT DEXOS approved but it would likely pass with flying colors and Pennzoil clearly knows how to produce DEXOS approved oils, but there are reasons they chose not to get DEXOS approval for the Ultra Platinum product line) and an OE AC Delco oil filter. Beware of getting too fancy of an oil filter, so have too much restriction and if you choose to use the ASS system all the time, this can be a PROBLEM.

Change the oil when the OLM hits 50%.

Is that the new weight requirement (0W-40) oil?? Around here, and a lot of places online, finding 0W-40 full synthetic in stock is becoming a challenge due to this issue.

Personally I run the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-40 but can only find it on Amazon….when it’s in stock and the price isn’t elevated due to demand!
Costco has many different weights in full synthetic, but not the 0w-40 yet. Good price though and its always in stock.

Yes, the supercar or Dexos R will cost more. I was referring to the regular full synthetic oils. I should have made that clear.

If you need an engine replacement under warranty and you’re not on a recall list; GM will require the Dealer to send out an oil sample for an oil analysis. If that analysis comes back as a unapproved oil, they will void the engine warranty. Let us know if that’s worth saving a few bucks

Never heard of a dealer or a typical shop pulling oil sample. It's going to cost $50 to $60 and take a week to 10 days and it may actually show that the oil was too thin potentially due to sheer and/or due to fuel dilution.

The engine isn't going to fail from either 5W30 or 0W40 oil, More likely to fail with 0W20..

At the end of the day clean oil is better than dirty oil, change it often. The only way you can get the dirt out of the engine that the filter doesn't stop is to drain the oil.

Not going into detail about the DEXOS approval process, it's part money grab and at the end of the day the oil vender is required to turn over the oil formulation to GM. That's the oil vendor providing a GM their intellectual property and most aren't interested in doing this for their higher end oils.
