Thing is loud as hell, engaged at all RPM's during acceleration. Even louder than the old one

Should it just loosen up??

What brand did you get? Reading reviews of aftermarket on Amazon, this was a common complaint. I went AC Delco and it's like factory.

When you installed it you should have been able to grab the fan and spin it easily. There may have been slight drag/resistance but should spin easily by hand. If you could not, that is a bad fan clutch. It sounds like is engaged all the time. It's like the heat that is supposed to activate that when the temp rises enough on the air coming in to it, is a constant heat instead of on and off. AC Delco is the way to go.

Sure would help if you put the rig(s) info in your account signature.

From my experience they will pull hard cold for maybe 30 seconds then quit down. When temp comes up you will hear it working again. If it is loud cold all the time it is probably bad.

Sorry guys it’s a 2004 Tahoe LT

It’s Duralast from Autozone. Right after I made this thread I bought the ACDelco one. So I will update this thread in a few days. Thanks

Went through four of them on my old truck. Finally gave up and put an electric fan on it. Hard to believe the aftermarket can't make a decent fan clutch, and they aren't cheap.
