Absolutely nothing of use

Literally. The ones that came out when we called were more interested in lecturing us on how filing a false police report is a felony . Thanks officers, for suspecting us of insurance fraud rather than actual citizens, victims of a crime. (We had it all on video as well . . )

months later, a tow yard reached out to us saying they had the chassis of the car on their property. my lady used to keep some obituaries of some deceased family members in the seat pockets because she said it felt like they were always close to her that way. I asked the tow yard lady if she could check and see if those were still there because we wanted them, she just uttered a long “uhhh” and said there isn’t anything left of, on, or in the car.

I think he is referring to our registration stickers that have the vin on them but not sure he knows that every single car on the road has a vin plate in the lower left corner of the windshield….. :happy175: :lol2::slap::insane:
I see said the blind-er, non new york-man.

Ha, it's probably to deter theft or something! Government in action!

Been happening for a long time. Thieves have the same equipment the dealers use to program new keys. Been a big thing with hellcats as they are the #1 stolen vehicle.

It’s gotten so bad for Dodge that in 2022 and 2023 they locked out the computers from making new keys. If you lose the originals you have to buy a new RF hub. Even the dealer can’t make new keys.

I have 3 keys programmed for my hellcat; since the computer is locked of if I lose them I’d have to replace the computer in the car. However thief’s are now unable to make a key using dealer tools to steal the car.

I don’t daily my hellcat because of this. I actually have been followed once and had to pull into a police station. Crazy.

Dude,
You Serious? I recently thought about how nice it would be to have a Durango SRT 392.. Prices are sort of coming down.
NOT QUITE the Hellcat but nice enough for me. I didnt know that they were a "hot car" to have. I might have to rethink this.

392 not much of targets. Thieves want the hellcats because they can make a quick 30k parting out just the engine and trans.
My local dealer had one stolen off their lot. They now keep all hellcats inside at all times.

Lots of crazy videos. Here’s one of 6 hellcats stolen at once.

My old boss drove his Charger Hellcat Redeye (widebody, sublime green, 1 of 2) to work once, to show us. He would only do it once because he was nervous about it.
They (Dodge) also came out with a PIN feature that, if you don't input the correct pin, the vehicle will only go 15 mph or something. Idk if the thieves have figured out a way around that yet.

Yes, it's for real. Charger and Challenger have been kings for 5ish years...of the top stolen list.

Yes they had that initially and then stopped offering that software update. They had issues with that software update for some reason. Now they just lock out new keys from being made which I feel is a much better security option since that’s 90% of the way these cars are taken.

I also have dual kill switches in mine and some other little things to make it harder to take as well.

A month or so ago I was going home in my redeye and a car with 2 suspicious looking guys in it started following me. Went into my neighborhood and they started following me down every side street. Kept my speed up and decided to NOT go to my house and drove to the police station and parked. Then they finally drove on.

The local Porsche dealership has a guard posted inside the showroom. Not the best deterrent but i think it works.

I should have been clearer. Not everyone lives in NY! Yeah our registration sticker in the lower corner of the windshield has the VIN in plain sight

No need to even get close to the vehicle... there are several plate-to-vin websites that are free to use.
Example

I've used it several times while shopping for used vehicles on Facebook and the owner won't share the VIN (they think it is like social security !!)

Unfortunately, this is another site that advertises "free"....... Except, you have to pay MONEY to use it.
If they were honest with their ad, up front, I'd try them, but since they are scamming in their ad,......
I won't give them a penny.

They claim this truck, is an example how great their website is.... This "example" is a Dodge truck that was fixed in "about" 30 days, as per their website. Uh, yea.....
( To add to my comment : Where's the running board??

I don’t use those websites to tell me if the truck is good or bad, just to find VIN from plate number

Neighbors truck is back ... the collision shop did a great job to fix all the scuffs on the paint, clear coat, interiors.

Apparently the truck was stolen and used to rob a house

They have the IGLA immobilizer installed now, apparently in a "secret location"... I saw it in action. The truck needs to be started, and a unique key combination on the steering wheel before going into drive. If the vehicle is put into drive without the unique key press operation, the engine would be killed immediately.

I remember, back in the day, we had steering wheel locks in the column / ignition switch enabled…..

Any word if they caught the lowlifes?
