Well last night I was putting on some new tow hooks when I noticed an oil leak. It appears to be coming from the pan, but I'm not totally sure since there was some oil on the filter. Also looks like there is a transmission leak as well. So my question is:

1. Replace all of the oil seals and drain plug since I don't know when they were done last?

2. Replace just the oil pan seal?

3. Replace all of the seals and oil pump?

I'm kinda lost when it comes to this subject. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

based on the info given I'd start with #2 and go from there.

Hopefully one of these days you guys will grasp the idea of putting the year, make and model and engine size in your posts. C'mon man!

If is the 5.3 engine then replace the oil pump pickup o-ring seal that is known to cause problems. Use FELPRO oil pan gasket set. You may see that the rear main seal is also leaking meaning the trans would have to come out for replacement. Where the oil filter spins on there is a housing that has O-rings and gaskets that also can be leaking.

There is a dye that is made for checking for oil leaks. It's put in the oil. Google it.

Good luck.

use purple power. spray it in concentrate onto warm oily parts, let sit until almost dry, blast off oily stuff with pressure washer, repeat until clean. drive truck slow for 10 mins, find leak.
Simple...

If you're going to change the pan gasket, change the oil plug and pump as well. You're already there with the oil out... might as well.

Leaks go down and back. Find the highest point most forward and there's your leak. Mine had a slow seep around the pan. I dropped the diff some, and replaced the pan gasket. Not too difficult if your comfortable working on stuff.

It's an 02 with the 5.3 flex. I think part of the problem is the incline of my driveway. When parking on a flat surface no leaks can be seen on the ground.

Here's my pan, you can see it gets dirtier as you go back.
