I am experiencing the same problem, got into my 2007 Tahoe and the dic would not light up and the gear select was very very faint. Adjusting dash lights did nothing, hitting cluster did nothing, any ideas other then take it to the dealer?
Thanks
In my part, the only thing that turns it on is hitting the cluster, a couple of times to turn it on. maybe Elizabeth from Gm can help you.

Critter,

I would be happy to help! I will just need a little bit of information from you. Have you been to the dealership for this issue? If so, how many times?

Thank you!

Years ago, I had a buick with a digital display. It had a removable chip in it that stored your odometer settings. If you changed your instrument cluster, all you had to do was move the chip from the old to the new. Just wondering if the trucks have that sort of feature and the chip could be loose in it's plug.

I don't know how to take off the cluster, but i'll try this weekend, I'll look into the DIC maybe that chip you talk about, maybe loose

this so reminds me of the old days of the Nintendo.. blowing in it hitting it a couple times to make the contact stay .. hope you get it cleared out man.. maybe something got spilled on the dash or some water got in and ran down the contacts and they just need cleaned with some cotton swabs and some alcohol and put back together.. keep us posted man.. seems like your not the only one having the problem. so don't feel alone.

So, Elizabeth (the GM representative), had a GM representative call me, I had already posted here that my truck is over 100k, this guy talks to me, and tells me to take it to the dealer, but since the truck is out of warranty, and if they find that it's not a defect from GM, that I would have to pay for the time they took to take my shit apart. By the way did I mention that last year, they replaced my dashboard because it had cracks on it, could it be a dealer mistake, but won't admit it! who looses, of course me, I could be out from $200 to $300, just to have them check. The DIC shouldn't be going out to begin with, that tells you the most important thing, how many miles the car has, in case you ever wanted to sell it. And to add insult to injury, the car is only 4 years old. WTF. I swear man, I love my truck, she's been good to me, but this has me thinking of just getting rid of it, and never buying a GM vehicle again. By the way just a quick history on my vehicle for all of you to read. @ 30k had transmission replaced, @ 70k had my dashboard replaced because of stress cracks on it, @ 85k there was a bump every time I took off, dealer said it was transmission, theY put in a new one, bump still there, end up being the motor mounts, had that replaced, and now this shit. WTF.

Woke up to this issue this morning. Well at least it isnt Monday anymore. Anyone have a video link on how to safely remove the Cluster? Will the truck still run with t removed? I replaced exterior lights with LEDs well over 6 months ago and have had hyper flash the entire time. not sure if this issue is a result of that or just the result of ****** day syndrome.

Problem just happened to me as well. I'm at 97k on my truck. I smacked the top of the dashboard and it started working again.

Sorry just finishing this thread. I took the truck to my chevy dealer, and they changed my cluster for free. Everything working fine now.

Dic lights out - same issue as many others

I am new to forum and hope for direction on how to get this issue fixed. The DIC lights are out on my Tahoe too - just as noted on these older threads.

http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26769

Can anyone help me with what the cost is to get this fixed. As suggested on 1 web site, I can slap my hand on the dashboard above the steering wheel, and the lights will come on. Then, when I turn off the vehicle, they don’t come on the next time I start the vehicle...unless I slam my fist on the dash again.

It seems from so many complaints and other web sites discussing this issue for years, that perhaps Chevy has a simple way to fix this that won’t cost hundreds of dollars.

Can anyone advise me on how best to get help for this at a reasonable cost. I am not a do it yourself person with cars. Really appreciate your help.

I just saw this post as well:

Is it possible that Chevy is now fixing this issue for free?

thanks
