Need help guys...ckunk sound when coming to a stop

Ok guys I noticed recently when im coming to a stop usually slowly i hear a loud clunk sound. Seems towards the rear end. I dont feel anything in the brake pedal and it doesnt do it everytime. It is a pretty loud sound. It stops fine and stuff. Just a little concerned since its my daily/family car. Any ideas on where to start??

Ok so maybe not there rear sounds more like front right. Coukd it be my brake pads sliding up and down or something??

Just a wild guess, but check your sway bar end links to determine if any are broken. If so, pretty sure you'd hear a clunk now and then, as the sway bar would be moving freely and occasionally making contact with other metal.

Ill check it out, my wife just called and let me know that now when she stops it acts like the front right brakes get stuck and makes a rough vibrate before getting back to normal. Cant catch a break

Have you done any brake work lately? When I changed out my pads, I had to replace one of my caliper pins. Didn't do the other side. It would catch on the side I hadn't done. Don't remember if I heard any clunks but it did mess with braking for a bit.

I had my rotors and pads replaced like a year ago. And its worked fine till recently. I did check my passenger side the other day and the corner of my pad was broke off

I'm thinking suspension. Maybe failed shocks shifting. I'd have a good looks at my shocks, springs and shackles.

Clunk or not, it sounds like the brakes might need some attention.

Took it to a shop after replacing my passenger caliper and no fix. My rear end is going out. Guy quoted me 1500 to 2000 to replace it

And he told me 7 1/2 hours labor to do it. That doesnt sound right to me. A rear end replacement shoukdnt take that ling right?

no it doesn't take that long I would guess closer to 4-4 1/2 (roughly) the wheels have to come off then the calipers, rear sway bar, then the rear cover, pull the pins and axles out to get the carrier out. maybe more time if the pinion needs to be done as well.

Thats about what I thought after watching some videos. I think im just gonna buy a whole new rear end and put it on. Heres a question though whats a good gearing for a rwd? 3.73? Or 3.42?

@swathdiver could probably give you more info on that, I guess it really depends on if you plan on towing with it or not. but you shouldn't be having to replace the entire rear end unless it has 300k+ miles or has some other issues going on there pretty hardy and just replacing gears bearing and seals usually get's it down the road for a long ways

It has 208000 miles probably wont tow that much but i plan on trying to make it quicker down the road, not drag fast but quick you know? I was just wondering what ratio would be better. I wanna go ahead and just put a whole new deal in it just to be safe. All the ones with 3.73 say 4wd only, but then say it fits my submodel so idk. Mines rwd so idk if that would matter since. Idk the difference on a rear end made for 4wd and one made for just rwd

Yeah, even at 1,200 for a stock rear end rebuild is still questionable, they better be putting a good selectable locker then I could see it and a new quality gear sets. 650 to 850 would be more reasonable. Now 1.5 to 2k that better include the reach around.
373's is a nice compromise, even better and less of a headache since you wont have to regear the front diff since you don't have one What gear ratio do you currently have?

Thats what im not sure. I bought it used. I think i checked and it said 3.73 but im not 100% all the 3.73 says its 4wd only. All tje rwd say 3.42 and all the prices i say for all new are about 1200 to 1600. But idk exactly where to shop for one besides jegs or summit. This is all new to me lol

You can get them rebuilt at some reputable shop, its faster and as long as they know what they are doing it might be even cheaper, Really depends 4wheelparts would be a good start, I would give them a call and see how much they want for a regear. Regear pretty much means new gearset and bearings pretty much everything in the diff, outside of the carrier and axles, do you have an open diff or g80?

If I'm reading those codes correctly, it's a 3.73 ratio, posi locker
