So, I have had my Hoe for a little over a year now. It had alot of issues since then but I keep putting the money into it 1. because I love this Chevy 2. because I would rather put 300/mo INTO the truck instead of paying to keep it.

So far it has costed me around that.

I have had to replace all the basics, O2 sensors, ball joints, u joints, cv axle, idler n pitman arm, berings, and a few others (pardon the spelling)

Just recently I had a prob driving home, truck would not come out of the misfire, pulled over and it wouldnt even idle. Found the prob to be a bad lifter and bent pushrod. Replaced all that and in doing so had to remove the distributor and forgot to mark it so had to go through the whole process of timing it.

In the attempts to set the distributor the way a V8 should be set the truck would not even start. After messing with it for what seems like forever I come to find that instead of a "8" on the top it is in fact a "6".

Im like, "wtf" so I decide to set it the way a 6cylinder should be set and vola' it started! Ran fine for about a week. I am about to buy a new distributor (the correct one) and install it. I am hoping this will give me my power back and maybe power I never knew I had since I been driving it on a 6cy dist for so long. Not sure why I posted, I just thought it was kinda wierd deal but then Im new to the whole mechanic world so Im not sure. Any comment and/or suggestions are much appreciated. :emotions122:

Welcome and Wow, first time I've heard of something like this. Is this even possible. Anyhow, good luck.

I wouldnt think so but the Hoe is running! Ran great for about a week then started to slowley lose power and now its lacking power and back into limp mode and driving like it was before just without the misfire. Going to replace the dist this weekend with the correct one and chase some wires to try and get my fuel gauge to work.

Oh, and thank you!!! :)

If you were running on a 6 cyl. dizzy then you would be missing 2 spark plug wires... And it most likely would never even start. Have you tries turning the distributor a little each way while someone's cracking her over to see if there is any improvement?

you got pics of that mess and where are two of your non attached spark plug wire going. Technically the cap is the only difference between v6-v8 rotor distributor and sensor are same parts.

You sure about that?? I think the module is difference ...

And how exactly do you set a V6 distributor differently then a V8?? They should be set exactly the same, line rotor up with #1 plug tower when engine is at #1 TDC ...

I will look again when get back home again but a parts search say cap is the only different part on whole assembly. Even motor was same. Will check again later.

They maybe the same part but the screw holes for the rotor are different. If you look at the plate the rotor connects to, there's 4 screw holes that are keyed to fit the rotor.
I know cause I tried to use a dizzy from my blazer to troubleshoot an engine code on my hoe. There was no way I could get the rotor pointing to #1 and have the alignment marks on the shaft be right.
Are you throwing a P1345 code?

I double checked it. It is the same rotor D465. It is use on 5.7l and 4.3l from 96-99 and at least some 5.0l and 6.0l engines as well.

I don't doubt it. I can say that my hoe (96 5.7l) dizzy had a marking for a 6 and an 8, The blazer (97 4.3l) dizzy only had a 6 marking. The 8 rotor would not fit on the 6 and have the shaft marks line up . They were off about 120 degrees.
