Mirror Swap Question: Are Side Mirrors Plug and Play on an 07 Tahoe?

I recently purchased a 2007 Tahoe LT2 with side mirrors that have no puddle lights or turn signals built in. I guess my question is two-fold.

First, were the puddle lamps and turn signals an actual option for the 07?

Second, if I picked up a pair on eBay is there a good possibility that the wiring for the turn signals and puddle lights are already there which would make it a direct bolt up with no wiring?

The wiring will work, and yes the 07's had that option. If your current mirrors aren't power-folding and the new ones are, you may need to get them programmed. Other than that it is a direct swap.

They are not power-folding. They are just plain mirrors with no turn signals or puddle lights. My big concern was ... is the wiring going to be pre-plumbed?

Zach, I also sent over a message to you... wanted to know what roof rack you have on your 08 and if that was plug and play also.

From what I've read, you may need to get new driver and passenger door switches to get the power-fold buttons. People here have done the swap so someone else will definitely know.

My roof rack is the Escalade/Yukon Denali rack, and it is also a direct swap, no modifications needed whatsoever.

What years for the rack? 07 to 10?

I did some serious searching and if anyone can point me to both the mirror conversions and the rack it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, 07-10. I can give you instructions for installing both if you need. They are very easy, especially the roof rack.

I know I am going to get completely lambasted here by hijacking my own thread but.... Does anyone know where I could get the pieces to swap out my woodgrain with the stainless? No stick on stuff please just OEM. If it only through the dealer any idea on rough cost?

You're gonna have some luck with the woodgrain to aluminum swap. Many members here with Z71 and LS trucks (the 2 models with aluminum) will be happy to trade you if you want to go that route.

As for buying parts online, you could try GMPartsDirect.com.

It's a pretty big pain in the dick to swap out the mirrors. I had to replace my passenger side mirror and was not impressed by the lack of forethought by GM on their design.

If you buy it, yes, but some members here offer their aluminum as long as you mention you're willing to trade. Personally I wouldn't drive around with no switches and stuff lol but if you find someone close enough you might could swap in person.

The mirrors are a lengthy process, somewhat. You need to take the door panel off, 3 bolts off the mirror, and then a plastic pin that holds it in place. I believe you use a flathead screwdriver to get that pin to release.

Roof racks are about the same price as the switches, I think. Somewhere around $500-$700 with all parts.

If you don't care that the mirrors power fold, I'm pretty sure the wiring is there for the blinkers and puddle lights to work. But I'm not 100% positive. If you want them to power fold, you will have to buy new switches.

I didn't think it was too much of a pain to change them. Maybe took 20 minutes per door.

Same here, it wasn't that bad, but the little plastic clip thing stumped me until my dad helped me with it.

For the mirrors, I was really only concerned with the turn signals and puddle lights. I can do without the power fold. If I ignore the power fold can I still manually fold them without damage.

And you guys are all pretty positive that wiring is there, even though i have nothing power on the mirror currently?

Yes, the switch panel will have openings for the harnesses that allow puddle lights/turn signals/possibly power fold.

Good point. They are power adjustable they have no turn signals, puddle lights or power fold.

As far as te swap is concerned, I really just wanted the puddle lights and turn signals. If the power fold option ends up being cost prohibited and or a royal pain in the rear I would be happy with just signals and lights.

The follow up question I have is two fold.

Are their mirrors that have signals and puddle lights and no power fold or are their only two units... the ones i have and ones with signals, puddles and power fold?

If I can get away with just swapping out the mirrors without swapping oput my switches but still getting the signals and puddles that would be my ideal situation right now.

My concern is, if they are made with the power fold can you still manually fold them if I dont hook up the power fold.

I think you can still manually fold the power-fold mirrors. I've never tried it but the car wash seems to do it easily on the right side haha. I don't think there are ones with turn signal and puddle lamps but no power fold, but I may be wrong. The ones with everything are known as DL3 mirrors.

My biggest peeve was the crappy, flimsy, plastic door panel clips that GM used. Obviously, they never thought about someone actually taking these things off when they were designing them. For a one-time install they're great, but they would not hold up to multiple on/off installations. The door panels on my '69 Mustang have cheap metal clips, but they're connected to the panel well and don't snap apart and/or break like the flimsy plastic clips.

It was a straight-forward and "easy" process...I just thought it was ridiculous that I had to take off the entire door panel in the first place. And then it ticked me off when the door panel clips were such pieces of crap...
