License plate light harness questions. GMT800 '06

I did this to myself, so I'm not complaining. Has anyone else done this specific mod / self torture? It looks like they don't make this license plate lamp harness for the GMT800 anymore.

I bought a rear tail lamp harness from Amazon. Some show that it fit, and some didn't.

For $16, why not? Famous last words...

This is about 6-8 inches too short to reach the driver's side light location, give or take.

This looks like a plug n' play extension that should work, simply plugging into the light socket.

I think I'm more comfortable sautering it than using an extension, but am I overthinking it? I'm really good at that!

I bought some LED bulb replacements that just slip into the bulb socket, so that cheap extension harness should work, me thinks.

If you're comfortable with your soldering skills and have the appropriate iron, flux, and solder, go for it. Use the proper size and type of wire (autoparts store), clean (copper) conductors make for better soldering, and no cold solder joints. I make sure to use heat shrink, first layer just large enough to get over soldered joint +2" in length, and a larger piece over that +3". Secure any excess with zip ties, etc. if needed.
