Leaking from thermostat housing

Has anyone else experienced a slight leak here and thought to themselves there should really be a gaslet there? I put a new rubber seal on... the one that goes around the thermostat itself and was surprised there was no seal between the 2 mating housing surfaces.

Are they available or do i need to make one?

Are you sure the gasket around your thermostat itself isn’t causing a leak? I thought the same thing til I saw how it’s designed. The gasket around the thermostat is supposed to seal it off from leaking

well no I'm not sure but the gasket on the thermostat itself is new and installed correctly

This is on a vortec right? Are the bolts torqued to spec (21 ft-lbs)? Make sure it isn’t actually coming from the hose and running.

A new Delco housing is maybe $20 if you get tired of fooling with it. It may have some pitting or irregularities preventing a good deal.

yes the vortec, I just snugged the bolts by feel but I wouldn't want to go tighter. if thats the case a new top housing only solves half the problem what about the bottom surface. I think a extra gasket would probably be the best fix per dollar. I have notice though that as I have been driving the leak has subsided quite a bit and maybe even stopped. I think maybe it just needed some pressure to seat the new gasket. At lest that's my favorite theory right now

I would smear a small amount of permatex between the housing and manifold, just a very light coating.
