Going crazy w this one. When I hit bumps, something knocks in the rear. Can't seem to pinpoint it. I removed everything from the cargo area with no luck. Then I thought it was my hitch, so I removed it, still hear the noise. I just opened the gate and stood on the bumper, pushing it up and down w my body and it sounded like it was coming from the lift supports, but I drive w the gate closed obviously. I slammed the gate shut and will drive around some, but doubt it's that. Must be something in the suspension (have brand new Arnott shocks and compressor). Anyone ever experience this?

Is your spare underneath? Could it be a little loose and rattling around?

May sounds stupid but you rechecked the bolts on the shocks?

I have read about autoride and airride stuff to the point I am blue in the face, no personal experience yet, but I recall something that may help you. Make sure you have air in the bags of your rear shocks. If not, the arnotts are prone to moving at the top/bottom joint. The pressure in the bag will keep this tight but some people were experiencing as much as 1" of movement here. Just grab it where the two overlap and see if you can move it at all.

Can't get under there yet (damn dirty ice everywhere), but I reached through the wheel well to the top of the shock and I'm able to move the cover? (Not sure what it's called) up and down a half inch or so. It clanks when I move it up. This tell us anything?

Try the jack and tire blocks in your cargo area. Mine came loose and knocked around a bit.

I would also check and see if you have any play in your rear axle. Jack the entire rear end up and see if you have any side-to-side movement with the tires/wheels.

Try the obvious {least expensive} stuff first. ie, loose spare tire, tire changing kit, seat belt knocking around, loose shocks, old can of tuna rolling around in the back..... you get the point.

Sounds like you may have found it. I will PM you the link if I can find it again. It's a lot to read but the most comprehensive thing I have found on the autoride/air ride suspension.

Still scratching my head.
I kicked the spare tire and heard a noise, so I whipped out the jack tools and I was able to tighten it a bit. Drove around and thought I got it, and then"clack." Only happens when I hit certain bumps. Yesterday I sat in the back and had someone drive. I swore it was the passenger side, then at the end of the ride it sounded like the middle or drivers side. If it's the Arnotts, I'm going to pissed bc I was willing to get OEMs, but thought the Arnotts might provide better handling and a comparable ride for less money.

Sounds like maybe the clanging is coming from the springs. If they are loose or have a spacer, that could be the source.

The saga continues:
Today is warmer and above freezing 36-40* and I only heard the noise twice during my entire commute. Wondering if the freezing temps we were having was causing something in the suspension to make the noise. I'm going to call Arnott and ask them if it could be the shocks performance in cold temps. I'm also still wondering if the spare tire has anything to do with it. I'm going to take it down completely when I have a chance.

......this afternoon was even warmer and guess what? Couldn't reproduce the noise. Seems like its definitely temperature related. Shocks freezing?

UPDATE:
Went for an oil change today. Took a good look underneath while it was on the lift and asked the mechanic to do the same. Everything looks great and nothing is loose in the rear suspension. Mechanic was saying that in freezing temps, the rubber boots stiffen up on the shocks and it's common to have noise. He said some silicon on the boots gets rid of the noise. This makes sense since the noise is now gone and it's finally above freezing.
Wonder if stock shocks do this? This is my first winter with the truck.

My air shocks don't make that kind of noise in the super cold but that doesn't mean that yours won't! Cold does some crazy stuff sometimes!

Contacted Arnott. They said if the air bags aren't filling up all the way, this will cause noises to come from the upper mount and bladder housing. When the system is fully inflated the gap between the upper mount and bladder is closed this will not allow noise to come from the shock.

So I guess I need to crawl under there and squeeze the bags after I start it up. This makes sense since the noise is intermittent.

My auto start has been going a bit whacky, and the truck will start, turn off start again, and repeat one more time on occasion. I wonder if this would cause the compressor to not run?

Been hearing a bump all winter when going over big bumps. Ignored it till I went to change the oil. Turns out one of the front link pins is snapped in two. Just another option...

Yea, it actually went away for the most part because its warmer here now (40 degrees and above). Occasionally I hear a noise in the rear that just sounds like I have shocks that are very stiff and not soft. I've also been starting the truck w the key and not using autostart (to test my theory that the autostart malfunctioning was causing the shocks to not fill).

It got cold again and the noise came back. I pulled over and poked the shocks air bags and they weren't filled (soft). I cut the engine off and on and no compressor kicking in. After sitting all day I started her up and still no compressor. Is there a fuse, leveling sensor, etc I need to check?
