Besides the site getting hacked here's how my Friday went. I was in petsmart yesterday about 1045am getting some dog food and when I came out my rear bumper was ripped about halfway off laying on the ground. Some gracious person with a green car decided to hit it and run. Now Im having to argue with the body shop and insurance because insurance wants to pay to try to repair it or at best give me a reconditioned bumper, the body shop is not wanting to help me with the deductible except for $50. I mean I have 4 cars and homeowners insurance with these people and the best they can do on my basically new car is a reconditioned bumper thats crap.

Sucks David, should have checked to see if they have cameras facing the lot, most larger chains do.
Also refurbished bumpers are not that bad,t hey actually look quite new. When I got rear ended tey wanted to use a Keystone refurb . on my truck which I tried to argue and loss, but now that I go back and look at it, it looks like a regualr brand new bumper in every way.

Yeah I actually checked with the manager because they share a lot with target but no luck. I hope it comes back like new but I am going to let the insurance company know what I think.

Let them know what you think by switching companies....God knows they let you know when you have a claim by raising your premiums.

Right now we are all at the mercy of insurance companies. I'm with USAA and they raised my rates 20% in the last year due to an "updated risk assessment for your area". I never had a ticket and my wife's accident was almost 3 years ago. I checked around and they are still cheaper by around 10%.

Even these days an insurance company will screw you even if you have a bunch of claims that are not your fault such as windshield replacements, hit and runs and whatever else. Some will raise your rates if you asked about replacing say a bent wheel. Generally if you can afford the bill at if it is around a grand, I would just leave them out of it especially if they charge you against your collision policy.

Allstate was no better, they jacked up the rates about 10% every year although we never talked to them. Eventually I moved to USAA and my rates dropped about 40-50%. And this was after being a loyal Allstate customer for about 7 years.

I had an issue with my insurance company, well the chick who hit my hoe's insurance. But I informed them that we could either order a new fender and bumper or I'll stop communicating with you guys and I will allow my insurance company to do my talking for me. THAT'S WHAT I PAY THEM FOR. Long story short they attempted to manipulate one local GM dealer and they told me that a reconditioned bumper was the best they could do. At this point I informed him that I was going to go to the other GM dealership which had alread promised me ALL NEW PARTS. Long story short, I allowed the two parties to discuss the issue and they called me back to inform me that they were going to order all new parts. At this point I requested a copy of the parts lists that theu were ordering because THEY ARE FULL OF SHIT. I got all new parts but it was the issue of dealing with those *********, like you want reconditined parts on a new automobile.

i hate insurance companies... you pay in thousands a year for years and years and years, and when you need a few hundred bucks back, they act like you didn't just pay them $5,000+ with 0 claims... progressive tried to rip me off for 'betterment' of my tires (5,000 miles on them) when someone slashed them in college... you have to bust out the lawyers now for everything!

SW CT,
This is the exact reason why I pay a little bit more for "OEM" replacement coverage.

I have state farm up here in Canada and i love them as well. Ive had a house claim for a flood and a couple of accident claims over 15 years and they are the best.
One of their motto's is Insurance like it never happened, and they live it, they give you options and fix your shit the way you ask for it, with in reason of course.

When our house flooded they gave us three options; one, we'll pay you 75% of the repair cost and you can go on a holiday, two, we fix it with our contractors to the way it was like it never happened and you pay nothing, Three, they'll pay you 75% and you fix it how you want and when it's complete they give you the other 25%.

I dont think i pay any more than anyone else either but i would.

It sucks to have a hit and run man, i hope you find them.

That sucks David. Hit and runs happen all the time out here in Lubbock too...damn people with no insurance! Almost had a similar experience this weekend...left "the bar" after an evening with some friends and some F-150 ******* had parallel parked in front of me and his bumper and hitch were pressing into my front bumper and valance insert. Luckily the valance has some "float" or he would have dented it. Resolution: I took a whiz on his tire and left him a post-it-note letting him know my thoughts on the matter. No conseideration from some people.

just to clear things up a reconditioned part is a oem piece it has just been repaired by a company like keystone. it is in no way aftermarket. once the recon part is painted and installed youll never notice the difference . if your worried about fitment issues or the bumper actually looking like it was repaired then you need a new body shop. trust me

You have a little (key word "little") leverage through the body shop. They don't get paid until you accept the work. If you tell them ahead of time you probably won't be happy with anything less than OEM the will have an incentive.

This isn't a guaranteed solution. They can argue with the insurance company, get an adjuster to look at the repairs, and get a ruling, but that takes time and effort.
