agreed.

The computer will sense detonation and will pull timing out, no matter what octane tune you do. Just don't let the extra $.30 to $.40 cents a gallon decide. It's a burger on each fill up.

Exactly. The difference really is chump change. Does it add up? Sure. But not fast enough for you to notice a huge hit. If you or someone else accidently drops some 87 in there on accident, no worries. Just throw a can or two of octane booster in it, and take it easy on the throttle. You aren't going to kill the motor unless you're racing around running WOT with the wrong octane in there.

mine is the 93 tune, but all we get is 91 around here. Just tell Justin what you have readily available.

If I make it for 91 tune on "tow/haul mode"...can I run regular 87 when in normal mode?

no.

Tow/haul is shifting, not timing,etc.

If you have 91 tune, it's 91 all the time. BUT, if you plan on moderately driving, you maybe can run 87 and get away with it. But traveling, going up and down hills with a load on engine, hauling, you can use 91.
Again tho, for about $3.00 to $5.00 per fill up, why cheat and run 87 this time, then 91 the next time?

say 10 gallons of gas at $2.50 for 87 octane
say 10 gallons of gas at $2.90 for 91 octane
10 gallons, thats $4.00.......

tune for 91, run 91.:ehcapt:

I would run 91 MOST of the time..however, if I'm short on cash but have to fill up....I might use 89..or 87....

what if Im tuned for 91 but wanna use 93 SOMETIMES?

also, when I feel like getting high at the stop lights...sometimes I'll drive my tank empty, then put 10 gallons of 105 octane in it..then throw a few bottles of octane booster in that...I like how it smells :)

Tune for 91, and you can run 93 without issues. Going higher on octane won't generally hurt anything, it's going lower that gives you issues because of the timing...although I dunno how well it would tolerate your crazy ass running 105 w/ booster in it, lol. :D

I like the 105+ octane for the smell...thats all :) I know its not gonna help

however, a higher octane fuel WILL change your performance when TUNED to use it...that site you listed is talking about for stock vehicles.

good informational find though!! For people that would like to understand octane ratings a bit more! :)
