The computer will sense detonation and will pull timing out, no matter what octane tune you do. Just don't let the extra $.30 to $.40 cents a gallon decide. It's a burger on each fill up.
Exactly. The difference really is chump change. Does it add up? Sure. But not fast enough for you to notice a huge hit. If you or someone else accidently drops some 87 in there on accident, no worries. Just throw a can or two of octane booster in it, and take it easy on the throttle. You aren't going to kill the motor unless you're racing around running WOT with the wrong octane in there.
