I am getting older by the day, my inguinal hernia gives me fits at times and I have to take breaks more often when doing these jobs. I also want to start taking more trips with my girl and eventually.....I hate to say this.....I will be stopping most work except for simple oil changes and just under hood simple work or maybe.....dare I say it.....stop working on vehicles altogether. If that happens, my complete set of tools will be for sale. Both Snap On boxes and all tools in them plus 1 of my 2 floor jacks and other items that are not in my boxes. Such as ramps, battery charging stations for the powered tools, jack stands.....etc. This set of tools is for a hard core DIY'er or an existing tech in a shop or for a guy/girl that wants to start a career that A-I will not take over. Depending on how my body holds up over the spring and summer, that will determine how quick I "MAY" sell the tools. This is an opening notice of what will eventually happen and to see who is serious.

I will not, I repeat, WILL NOT, sell these boxes and tools separately. This is and will be a CASH PRICE TAKES ALL and whoever gets them can stay off the tool trucks, where you would be in debt for years to come, and have a career that the dreaded A-I onslaught cannot touch. Or, you will have a DIY set of tools that you can be proud of. I am a retired ASE Master Tech and want these tools to go to a serious career tech or serious DIY'er.
There will be only 2 pics posted here and I will only share multiple others to who contacts via CL email....ONLY. If I believe you are serious, I will have you to my house to view them. The 24 pics limit is not even half of what I would need to be able to do the advertising of what I got, justice. Like so many big sets, there are numerous tools that are still completely new and never been used. Happens when you buy kits/sets, instead of piece by piece.

I still have the desire to do the work but those final days are coming, likely within the next 2 years.

I am putting this out there to make sense of what I am going to say next. When I stop, I stop and will pay someone else to do the work, including oil changes. At that point, I will be selling my tools. Both Snap on boxes and all tools in them. 1 floor jack and any related stands, ramps and tools that are outside the boxes.

This set of tools is for a very hard core DIY'er, an existing shop tech or a guy/gal that wants to get in a career that A-I will not replace. The tools are 90% Snap On, Mac, Matco, SK, Craftsman USA, ICON, Blue Point, Gearwrench, Autel, Foxwell, Klein, Milwaukee.......etc. Not counting batteries and charging stations, I have 10 different powered Milwaukee tools. I also have a like brand new, shop battery charger.

They will not go cheap and will not be sold separately. Retail price is between $60k to $70k. Out the garage door is no where near that and any reasonable price will be accepted. Again, I am saying this now so that if someone is serious about this, they will have time to mull it over and also get funds together.

To still stay in the game, I am looking for either remote or at shop, service writer/advisor/manager positions.

It sucks, I know. I feel it from here.

Who knows. I could still own them and use them for a year or two more before someone actually buys them. I have already had multiple contacts with "prospective buyers" that CANNOT READ. Common questions: "How much for just the boxes"? "How much for the floor jacks"? "How much for just the wrenches"? "How much for the sockets"?

Then I get back to them and tell them they are not what the post asks for....."Serious Buyers". They are not paying attention. It all goes at once. I have explained, again, to them, that I posted now so that if there is a serious buyer, then they have time to get money together and work out logistics.

It sucks that time is forcing you to think about these things, and plan for them.

Yea, it sucks, but Linda wants to do some traveling and if I go before her, I don't want her to have to deal with the sale. I have to be realistic.

X-rays and MRI have shown a curved spine and two worn discs. Ultra sound has shown some blood flow problems in my legs that meds is taking care of now. I am scheduled for an Echocardiogram on 22nd for a slight calcification of my blood but that will be controlled by meds as well.

I have a feeling that a lot of the wear and tear on my body, is accelerated a bit from doing the work her, in the driveway. That is a guess.

I do want to do some traveling too. No flying....driving. Hell, our birthdays are in December and she is now 78 and I am 73. Gotta be realistic. But I will still do some work.

I have an alternator replacement on a 2008 Toyota 4Runner with the 4.0 engine and all the idler pulleys and the belt. If I get the belt off and I feel some roughness in the tensioner assembly pulley, I will be replacing the tensioner, too. Check out a video at you tube. That tensioner is not gonna be fun. Gonna do all this tomorrow.

My cardio doc did ultrasounds on both legs, last week; and checked blood pressure on all 4 limbs at once.

Whatever they were looking for, they're happy with the results.

After trying to work on my truck yesterday, I started thinking the same thing. What do I need all these tools for if I can't use them?

There's a Youtuber I watch named Mike Beliveau who builds and shoots muzzleloaders and such. He recently got a terminal cancer diagnosis and has only a short time left. His heirs will keep the channel alive but he's going to spend his last days with friends and family, not working and doing the hard stuff anymore. Like you, it's the right decision to make Ron.

I decided to get out all my 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" ratchets and extensions, of all sorts. They are all either Snap On, Mac Tool or a couple SK. The 3/8" and 1/2" locking extensions, 3 of each size, are Gearwrench. I will try to group as best I can, starting with 1/4".

I understand what you're doing, and why, and I know that you know it, but having to take all severely limits the potential buyers. Might be more eligible buyers if the tools were grouped into logical groups that would be less expensive / intimidating. Not many people are going to have that kind of cash or be able to get a loan for it all at once.

When I think of how I accumulated tools, I would buy a few tools each paycheck -- 'cause that's all I could swing -- and that's how I filled my tool boxes.

That is why I am putting this ad out there, about 1 to 1.5 years in advance. I don't want all the lookey loos here at my house and me meeting them is a PITA. I agree with you about buying a little at a time. But, if you saw the complete breakdown of what I have and if someone wants to get in the career and leave A I behind, then this is it. The buyer will need to be committed to the career. I just have a feeling that sometime within the next year or two, someone will want it all.

If a buyer wants to piece it out, they would be paying a large premium for that. For instance, a $300 retail price ratchet would be $280. I know I have a daunting task. But I gotta try.

This happens to ALL of us, if we are lucky enough to live that long. Make the decision NOW, and be done with it. The truth is that you've been in semi-retirement for a while, and it is not the best place to be mentally, let alone physically. Is it hard to fully retire after working hard, as you have, for decades? F**K Yes! But, I can tell you from personal experience that once you FULLY retire, you will find mental peace, and the second guessing of yourself will end.

I lost my wife of 50 years last October, but we were lucky enough to be fully retired for 7 years to enjoy retired life together. Don't shortchange your available time with your girl by prolonging this decision, as at this stage in our lives, there is no guarantee of us living until tomorrow.

Just my 2 cents worth, my Friend.

There is wisdom here. I'm truly sorry for your loss. I feel it. I've been staring into that void for months.

I retired 6 years ago. Mama retired last Oct, full of plans for all her newly free time; and got sick a month later. Since last Thanksgiving, she's been in and out of the hospital; with four ER admissions. They couldn't figure it out; I'm not convinced they have yet.

She still has a couple of surgeries pending, but she seems to be mending. Her strength and spirit are finally returning. We've got 45 years together. I'm not ready to cut her loose yet. But life happens all sudden like.

Yea, Linda is flying back home tomorrow after almost 5 weeks gone to Texas to deal with a 50 year old daughter that is a "Wreck Up From The Neck Up". Legitimate physical problems that are compounded by her drinking and drugs problem and not working, so Linda supports her. Linda has spent trips down to Texas, within the last year, that total approximately 5 months. Linda is worried that I will leave because of all of it but I told her I would not ever do that but during this trip I talked with her and it is set that the daughter never lives here and even if she visits, like last Xmas for 8 days, I will make the daughter's life miserable. She gets no breaks from me. Linda was and is ok with it and even she shared with me that they had a talk/yell about $ is gonna be cut off. In short, the daughter is a B*I*T*C*H.....

I know I want to travel with Linda and so does she. Trip back to KC, Mo. maybe in the fall. A trip down Hiway 101 coming up for us.

I was going to do an alternator swap on a 4.0 engine 2008 4Runner, yesterday. One of the first steps is to remove battery for access. When I lifted it out, I felt my right groin twinge. I knew that during the process of releasing tension on the serp belt would mean pulling thru my core and likely more twinge and working in there with body twisted in different angles. If I really hurt myself during the work and then could not finish, then that means a vehicle towed out. I did not want that possibility at all. I put battery back in, twinge and all, and let her know of the problem. Found a shop, close to her that will install dealer parts, on Monday, and delivered the 4Runner back to her.

Till I see my VA doctor about the hernia twinge problems, I will be limited to oil changes and strictly work under the hood that is way easier on my body.

This is why I have all the tools and boxes up for sale. The writing is on the wall. Putting the word out there so that if anyone is interested in all of it for the ultimate DIY'er work or right in to a shop for a career change and stay off the tool trucks. If it takes a year or two to sell it all, so be it. I keep getting calls and messages about prices for the n boxes or sockets or wrenches. I just tell them a very inflated price and they leave me alone.

This set of tools is exactly what a serious wrench would want but they do need to be just that....SERIOUS!

"Good morning, your provider has reviewed your MRI and found that it was abnormal, showing signs of wear and tear causing narrow space for spinal cord".

I had been told of the curved spine and 2 discs damaged. The above info came this morning. All this, plus the Inguinal Hernia problem, kind of points to what I am doing about selling the tools is the right thing to do. Even if I have surgery, after talking to a Neurosurgeon and the doctor about the hernia, I am gonna assume-at least till I talk to them, that continuing to do the driveway work is not in the cards. Even at 73, after 45+ years in the shops and other years in my driveway, this is really hard to take.

It looks like my "Travels with Linda" are in my future. I still keep getting emails and calls about selling pieces of the tools, even though my ad/post is very detailed about what I want to do.

It may come down to individual tools, but not ready to do that yet.

I added my below statement to my CL and FB ads.

I have come to the conclusion that selling a complete set of boxes and tools is just too much for someone to do all at once. So proportionately, buying is more expensive for the buyer. So, knowing that, if you have a need for a certain tool or set of tools, I am open to negotiations for all that.

The problem will be that if I need a tool or set of tools now, I cannot let go of what someone may want to buy now. It will take some understanding for each of us.

You sound a lot like me. I was in Electronic Countermeasures in the Air Force. Worked as a mechanic for many years at garages and dealerships. Became a snap on tool dealer and later a Mac tool dealer. Sold Hunter equipment for 4-5 years and owned a Goodyear store for about 7-10 years. Got into real estate prior to retiring about 5 years ago.
I really don’t have any one in my family that would appreciate the 6 tool boxes full of tools that I have and I don’t want to give them some body to waste away. I’ve thought about selling them but haggling with someone for 5 dollar over a tool that cost 150.00 new ain’t my idea of fun so I’ve decided I’m going to take them to a automotive school a donate them. Young starting mechanics will appreciate them ( I would have 60 years ago), if I knew a young starting mechanic I could trade for future labor on my cars I would consider that also but these days there is a big turn over for starting mechanics.
It’s tough to get your value out of tools. They are so expensive and tool trucks sell them on weekly accounts and nobody that needs tools makes enough to stack 40-50 or 60 thousand dollars they are worth.

Here's an idea, an expensive one, from left field.

There are auto repair and restoration colleges in KS, and probably elsewhere. I'm sure donations of any portion of high quality tool collections would be appreciated.

They may even be able/willing to pay; and there're tax deductions.

I agree with Joe. I am in the same situation. My tools were from my Dad and are over 60 years old. My daughters do not want them. I plan to donate them to my local high school vocational center or one of my nephews.

I still have to decide what to do with my 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that I have owned for 52 years as well as my my 30 year old Jeep Cherokee. I hope one of my nephews wants the Monte Carlo. The Jeep I can sell.

Here in Eugene, Oregon there are no high school vo-techs in the area and the one local community college, that has an automotive course, has an instructor that I have left messages for 2 times and get no calls back. I am not willing to give the tools away. Especially when me and Linda want to travel for a bit. I will sell them, either all at once or piece by piece or set by set. Until then, I will use them for whatever work I can still do. Thanks for the input.

Unless it's hammered, that Monte Carlo should bring way more than the jeep, and do it quicker.

I'd be much more interested in the Monte Carlo.
