Welcome from Southern California! That’s a dang nice truck for a first ride! Definitely nicer than my first ride was haha. My 2006 Yukon Denali is the same color. Looks like your clearcoat is in good shape. Keep up on that as the silver birch metallic paint is prone to clearocat failure. Keep her clean and good quality wax on it and that should help. Like others have stated good maintenance makes this generation of GM SUVs run good for a long time. These rigs like regular oil changes. Lots of knowledge here to help you keep her on the road! I’ve learned everything I know about my rig through and through from here.

Looks good! You're fortunate to have received such a nice ride as your first. I'm impressed that your first plan of action is to make sure it's up to par before diving into the mods. i don't recall any teen with their first car asking about this, but how many subs and how big of wheels can they fit, etc. Then you see a kid on the side of the road with big wheels and a squat from the sound system, Skar and Punisher and IG handle stickers on every window, broken down from worn and failed powertrain, drivetrain, suspension or steering components.

Fortunately, this generation is arguably the most reliable of GM's trucks. The LS engine is relatively simple in design and easy, clean and cheap to work on. You've also found a forum where you can be walked through damned-near anything on your Yukon.

To start:

1. How many miles are on it?

2. Know any of its owner or maintenance history?

3. Any warning lights on the dash?

4. Any gauges reporting anything concerning?

5. Anything that doesn't work or works improperly?

6. Does it make any seemingly odd sounds?

7. Any concerning suspension or steering feels?

8. Suspension noises?

9. How do the brakes and the brake pedal feel?

10. How's the transmission's operation?
This, 100%!

Very nice truck for a first vehicle! Welcome to the forum!

My first vehicle was a 1987 (in 2001) Ford Taurus station wagon my Mom had wrecked before on the rear quarter panel and rear (it was black with a white rear lift gate replacement due to the collision, quarter panel banged out with a hammer) and my Dad let me borrow it to high school on rainy days. LoL

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

You are already receiving sage advice from the knowledgeable folks on this Forum.

Really nice truck, and it sounds like you will be taking great care of it.

Get yourself a China clone Tech 2, the bi-directional scanner (~$300) that the dealer and it mechanics used to troubleshoot these trucks. It will save you literally thousands of dollars in troubleshooting and repairs over the remaining life of your truck.

Hello. I'm from Oklahoma and received a 2005 Yukon SLT as a first car. I got into cars and recently trucks just within the past year or two and am very new to these things. Thought i'd join this as it's been alot of help at answering questions i had.

Only thing i've done to my truck is removed the broken window deflectors and removed the running boards. Also added new window wipers to the front and back.

I'm wanting to keep the paint color that's on it and go for a lifted and aggressive look. Most likely going to go with the main paint job and everything else black.

One of the things i want to do before adding anything crazy is inspect the truck and make sure everything is good on it. Anyone have any tips as to how i can go about doing so? Thanks!
Welcome, from South East Florida ! I have the same Yukon. I love it..... 1st thing I did was 'update' all fluids, so then I will have a current history, also brakes.... answer to "iamdub's" questions will assist us in suggestions.

If you are on a budget, check out this code reader. It is simple, but helpful. I am not a tech guy, so I like this, easy to use, ' Ancel AD310 " to check codes.
