Hey there guys,
I have a 2003 Yukon that I plan on keeping. I live in Michigan so of course rust is a nightmare underneath. Any advice on what I could do to help preserve the underbody? Start with a wire wheel and…? Appreciate any help or advice you could send my way! Thank you!

I decided to try some of the Salts Gone I kept seeing advertisements for and it works pretty good. It's pricey but you only need a couple ounces per gallon mixed into a sprayer. I would probably get some Fluid Film to spray under afterwards. It's an ongoing battle for sure, good luck!

Not expecting a response, but it's a decent rust preventative, FYI:

prior to the start of 'salt season', I went to Home Depot and bought a large sheet of coroplast (think plastic impersonation of cardboard, about $20 or so)
and affixed it to my Tahoe's underside - obviously there's a bit of trial and error to figure out what are good attachment points,
as well as leaving a lil extra room for front wheel droop and steering articulations.

Not only did it do a pretty good job of protecting most of the underbelly from salty slushy mungjy yuckiness -
brought it forward far enough to protect front of engine and steering links from road spray -
gained 2MpG highway from lower form drag; definitely noticed subtle difference on the highway.

Every Fall I mix up some diesel fuel and chainsaw oil 50/50 and spray underneath all my vehicles. There's wax in the diesel and the chainsaw oil keeps it from dripping (somewhat). Just let it sit over some plastic sheeting for a while.

I had both of my trucks NHOU oil sprayed this year. Rockers are getting pretty bad on my Denali, going to be cutting those out and replacing them this winter. Otherwise, that truck is pretty solid from a rust standpoint.

So they bring the trailer and put your truck up like that? Now I know.
