so i'm doing the hockey puck/ silencer mod...finished up, turned it on and saw a geyser coming out from under the hood. i turned if off...went to see what happened. i thought i might have unplugged something...turns out that i either leaned on this or something and it broke. what do i do now? new intake manifold or can this piece be extracted? where does this go exactly? if i just hammer at it to break away all the "pipe" that stuck in there, is there going to be a problem with little fragments going in there? if i remember correct...i think coolant flows away from this orifice so i think i'm ok there.

Damn! This is a common issue hapened on my 6.5 diesel had to carefully cut out the pieces in the threads then rethread it. Auto store should have a tool maybe a better way to do this. I actually went away from that fitting and did a slip style in stainless the aluminum part that's original is junk for that reason! Good luck try to keep it clean those pieces will eventually cycle through your system not a good thing.

so yeah i'm researching it and it seems to happen a lot! damn heater fitting. water flows out of this and it is a high pressure hose so i'm hoping that anything that might falls in will get shot out if i turn on the engine without the hose connected for a few seconds. i'm gonna go attack this thing with a hack saw.

i was gonna suggest a hack saw blade, but didn't know exactly how big the hole was. didn't know if you would be able to get into it with a blade or not. may be able to gently cut it down to the threads and then maybe chase it out with a screwdriver.

It works just be patient. When you get done squeez one of the larger radiator hose should be enough pressure to flush out the debris.

i bought a extractor tool but i can't get it to budge and i'm afraid that the more i try, the more it's expanding into the threads making it tighter. the hacksaw barely fits in it....i'm gonna have to try more tomorrow. i've read about this happening very often due to a ****** part. i'm definitely not putting the same part in.

happened to mine take the manifold off and very carefully take a small chisel and hammer and u can break peice off by peice with out messing up threads if ur careful then i put the stock one back in it the alumin is very brittle easy to chip off and if ur going that far dont foget to buy the intake manifold gasket set

Lisle tools makes an extractor exactly for this purpose. Basically it looks like a big EZ out. Hammer it in through the hole, put a wrench on the end an unscrew. Then install a new heater hose coupler, snap in your heater hose, and top off the coolant.:) Check out the tool at www.lislecorp.com

thanks for the write up retorq. as soon as i can, i'm going to take the extractor and tap back because they don't work for shit. while i'm there i'll pick up some smaller blades and some vice grips. i can't believe i don't own a pair. i had been losing coolant and would have to completely refill every 4-5 months. i already replaced the water pump, although it could be that again. i almost want to take the intake off to clean it all up, replace the gasket so that doesn't become a problem later and get this thing fixed and tapped.

so i called a couple of places to see if they can do it before the weekend. so far i've been quoted an hours worth of labor...one place wanted $90 plus the new fitting and then wanted to do a complete coolant system flush for $120...another place will do it for $120, fitting included and will refill it with whatever I want them to...they either use their stuff or i take them what I want them to put in it. I'm gonna go with the latter. I don't feel like messing with it all weekend and tracking down the part. Now the question becomes, what to fill it with? Green or dexcool? I keep hearing horror stories about dexcool.

thanks for all the tips and links guys. it really helped out a lot. i ended up chiseling out all the pieces to where i thought i could run the tap through but then couldn't find a 1/2" pipe tap so i just used the replacement steel fitting, started it by hand and used an impact wrench (on a very light setting) and drive it in. i then turned it on, gave it a couple of bursts of gas to shoot out any debris that may have fallen in. through some determination and not wanting to pay $160 for a shop to fix it, i was able to do it myself and it feels pretty good. i ended up buying two of my bilsteins with the money i saved and will get the other two in two weeks.
