so my 99 2door Tahoe wont start . I've been working on my Tahoe fixing little things at a time ..I have been trying to figure out what is wrong with my tail lights .. the brake lights wont turn off and I just cant seem to figure out what is wrong with this problem . I replaced the brake peddle switch and the lights are still on. I've tried to ask a few people and no one has an answer as to what might be causing this issue .so I decide to drive the Tahoe around the corner to the store to buy myself a drink . when I come out the Tahoe wont start .. the fuel pump is working and I checked all the fuses , and they were all good .. plz if anyone has an idea as to what might be causing this problem ..plz give me some advice ..thank you

No start, so you mean the starter spins the motor over but it won't start, no sounds like it's attempting to start. Is that correct? Fuel pump runs but taking a fuel pressure reading to confirm enough pressure would be good. Did you try cycling the key multiple times? Sometimes that will get enough fuel pressure up for it to start. Need to check for spark.

Yup, that sounds like the classic OBS issues. There's even a OBS stateterpack issue we came up with....
yes the engine turns over , fuel pump is working , has spark : new cap and rotor , plenty of fuel pressure .. it wants to start but wont stay on .. I just don't know what to do anymore ..

Do you have or have access to a code reader? Even a cheap bluetooth one can show 90 percent of codes. There are a couple codes that are must fix for a no start such as yours.

Turn the key to the on position and wait, does the security light go out? If it doesn't cycle the key off then back on, take a walk and get a drink, let it sit with the key on for a while. You can google and find the time required but it will reset the security system and you can then turn the key off and back on and the light should go out and the truck start.
Shot in the dark. Check around for vacuum leaks. Maybe a pcv or vacuum hose went bad. You said distributor so im guessing throttle body injection. Depending on age, those injectors can go bad.
As for cycling the key to check to see if the antitheft has activated, the time is 10 min. But if passlock or passkey has activated, i think it cuts communication to the starter like in my Alero. There is no “tries to start but dies”.
